Any gaming class pre-built PC is a steam machine so long as it runs steam in any capacity, yes.

Also, any custom-built PC running steam is a steam machine. Anything running steam, within an acceptable range of specs, is a steam machine.

Do you have a gaming PC? You have a steam machine.

So I'm in the streaming beta along with the music beta. I have a custom-built windows-based steam server running an nvidia titan, 16 gb DDR3, and an i7-4770 dedicated to a VR chamber in a spare room (that I've dubbed the holodeck) that acts as a sort of central media source for my entire place. In my living room, I have my tiny 8" x 8" intel-made steam machine also with an i7-4770 connected to the back of my TV via a VESA bracket running SteamOS. The entire system is really slick. For games that have linux ports, I'll install a local copy of the game on my HTPC steam machine, and for windows games I just stream them to my living room using a wired connection. My Steam server also contains 2 2.5 tb HDDs that store all my video content, which I push using XMBC. My Steam Server also contains my mp3 collection, which I can access in-game using the music beta.

My "holodeck" is pretty empty right now, just with the steam server and a ceiling-mounted oculus rift connection (so the wire hangs down and doesn't twist me up when standing). By summer, it'll be filled out with a Virtuix Omni and a Sixense STEM to fill out the room. On one of the walls in the room is a LCD 16:9 TV mounted to the wall with a keyboard rack also mounted to the wall that I'll be able to use as a menu and lean out to type on from within the VR chamber.

As a local next-gen ecosystem encompassing my entire place, Steam is really, really fucking cool. And I already have a PS4, Xbone, and WiiU. None of them "take over" my house quite like this.

Yeah this has some potential. I just wish those were analog sticks and not those weird pads (I know it kinda mimics the steam controller)

If the Steamboy actually happens it would probably become my go to portable system.

how can PC games work in portable form? Could MMORPGs , RTS, and FPS work on a tablet?
