Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
So, started over with Enhanced Edition, and progress is much, much faster. The extra screen real-estate, quick saves, and general refinements make the game quite a bit less irritating.

Did the original version of BG not have quick saves? I've never actually played BG on the BG engine; I've always used BGT, and all the games starting with Icewind Dale have quicksave. I think PST also had quicksave.

If it does I couldn't find it.MrPopo wrote:Did the original version of BG not have quick saves? I've never actually played BG on the BG engine; I've always used BGT, and all the games starting with Icewind Dale have quicksave. I think PST also had quicksave.

On all the Infinity Engine games I mentioned quicksave is on Q. There is no quickload in most of them (I think IWD2 added a quickload).

I regrettably did not have time to play this since Monday; real life stuff got in the way. Hope to pick it up again Sunday!

Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Doing much better this time around. Nearly my whole party is level 2 already. I've done all the sidequests I had done before, and I'm in Nashkel already, all in about half the amount of play time. Play fatigue is less due to the nice zoomed out view, and now I'm doing much better with the combat system (kiting ftw).
Liking this game a whole lot more already.

I'm up to the boss of the mine in Cloakwood. He's super tough and almost always kills someone in no-time. I'm sure I'll figure something out.
But I'm officially farther than I've ever been in this game! Yeah!

Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
I'm in Baldur's Gate and it's pretty exciting! The city environment is a good change of pace from what felt like endless woods/mines. I'm doing more exploring than questing at the moment, but I'm just glad to be as far as I am!
It also makes me appreciate the manual/map that came with the original release. Because otherwise, I'm pretty sure I'd end up spending two hours trying to find an Inn.

BTW, Quicksaves are definitely in Tales of the Sword Coast and it's listed in the TotSC manual as an "Unmentioned Feature in BG" so it should be there for any version. (And like the others, it's "Q")MrPopo wrote:Did the original version of BG not have quick saves? Afaik there is quick load in all of them, but not mapped to the keyboard. But with the settings application(which let you configure the sound and display) you can set all the hotkeys in the game.
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Guess who finally returned here after about a week's absence?
Today's session wasn't crazy long, but myself and another party member gained a level through more sidequests outside of Nashkel.
A lighthearted moment occurred today, something you'd probably not see in a real life table-style RPG, but this is all about the magic of video gaming - a reference to a 1980s sitcom:
