Certainly, the culpability for any single crime rests solely on the shoulders of the individual that committed it, and if the shooter were still alive we would not hesitate to prosecute him. That said, we should not let the concept of personal responsibility deter us from having a discussion as to policies that might prevent - or at lease minimize the fatalities associated with - violence.

There are extremist nuts on both the left and the right. Same as when they tried to say Bush staged 9/11...

This stuff shouldn't surprise anymore.

The fact that these nuts exist is never surprising, but the details of the "arguments" they put together almost always are. The stuff about Batman is completely incoherently insane

On a more serious note, I'm also bothered by:
Why are we reporting on this obvious dementia?? Because everyone should know that the column’s author, Bradlee Dean, is allowed to perform before children at K-12 schools with his traveling evangelical performance, eerily titled “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide.”
and
Of course, WND is a dangerous and irresponsible tabloid – but it’s a blog that seems to be well-established within the right wing of the Republican party. Rick Santorum, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination and was considered a serious contender for a while, writes for the site.
all of which makes the author and the site seem at least a little less of an aberration that people on the right would automatically dismiss as such...

World Net Daily isn't actually representative of the far extreme out of touch with mainstream Republicans. Rick Santorum has a column there.

As far as Bush and 9/11, many people I know who think 9/11 was an inside job are anarcho-conspiracy theorists, and not necessarily the extremes of the Democratic Party. That's not to say that there can't be extremists on both sides, but I've noticed far more extremists on the "left" decry Democrats and Republicans, while many of the extremists on the right decry only Democrats and RINOs.

Ehh, I disagree here. We weren't talking dems and republicans, we were talking liberal/conservative and left/right. I think you are looking at it in a bit of a biased light. When it comes voting, most of each side will vote for dem/rep with some trickling into their respective independents.

That blog site may have some of the nuts on there, but blog sites generally have a mixed bag of writers. One guy's blog on a site isnt necessarily representative of the site as a whole. And before that article, I have never actually visited the site so I am not familiar with it, and speaking in general.

Liberal/conservative and left/right are relative to specific political situations. Comparing American political parties grounds the hypothetical.

You're better off without it, if my memory of your politics serves me correctly. Am I wrong is thinking you're conservative but not too conservative? Free market but not Tea Party? And unfortunately, that site is typical. WND is still pushing the birther conspiracy.
