I have never participated in together retro before, so this year I think I'll want to get into it. For starters I will probably skip Golden Axe Warrior since it's expensive and I don't have a SMS.
A few of the games I already have, so it will be cool to boot them back up after a several year hiatus. I haven't played THPS2 or Soul Caliber 1 in years, I think it will be fun to play them again.
SMB2 seems like a silly choice. I have multiple copies of it in fact, as I am sure most people on these boards do. I have for NES, SNES and GBA. The true SMB2 (the lost levels) will always be the better game, but the US version is great in its own right.

I think Lost Levels is easily the weakest mario platformer I've played (and the only one I havent is 3D Land). The western mario 2 on the other hand is one of my favourites, whether it was originally a mario game or not.

agreed 100%
Lost Levels just feels like a ROM hack to me. It's just like SMB but way more dickish.

Yeah, that's how I feel. More like a super-hard fan-made level pack for people who mastered the first game. I prefer the US Super Mario Bros. 2.

I have beaten the lost levels and can't think of a more rewarding experience that I have had with a plat former. On the other hand, I have also beaten SMB2 (US) and don't nearly have a similar affinity to it.
The lost levels are just incredible, devilish and the pinnacle of 8-bit platforming.
I also don't like how it has been dubbed the "lost levels" since the game is actually the true SMB2. What we got in the US was the watered down pallet swap.

We call a Megadrive a Genesis. We call a Famicon a Nintendo or NES. We call Vega M. Bison.
The pallet swap was what was marketed to us as Mario 2 and the Japanese sequel was marketed as Lost Levels. So that's what most people call these games. But what's in a name, right?

honestly. We have to go through this again. When Super Mario Bros 2 (Doki Doki Panic) came out in the US, it was called Super Mario Bros 2. We (the masses) didn't know about "lost levels" until the 16-bit iteration, which was re-dubbed... Lost Levels. Why would we then stop calling the game we all grew up playing and knew as SMB2 "SMB2"?
