Most people I've talked to think this reboot is completely pointless. It's just DC trying to revitalize sales, nothing more.
'course that doesn't mean that we won't see some good comics come out of it, but that doesn't change the fact that the reboot itself is a kinda dumb idea.
To clean and modernize the comics.
The characters grew too much and origins in from the 1930s didnt mix well with modern life. Its just a clean slate. Most of the characters are relativity similar to their previous concepts - notice I said concepts not continuity. It was fun watching Superman mature, grow, and get married through the 70s, 80s, and 90s but a fresh start is needed.
I relate comics to a great retro game. If the game (or comic character) is awesome you have no problem restarting the game again because its fun even though the 2nd or 3rd playthrough is different its still similar and comfortable.
Remember the continuity was rebooted to make it more modern the core character traits are still the same.

For the most part, yes, however some writers are taking this opportunity to take some of the characters in completely new directions; like Grant Morrison with Action Comics #1. It should be interesting to see how it all plays out. Personally, I very much enjoyed JL #1, so so far so good.

It worked out absolutely fantastically when they did it in 1986, after the original Crisis on Infinite Earths ended. I have high hopes that we will see just as much incredibly talented work come out of DC Comics again.

The more I read Superman (who is my favorite character, check out my game room and the fact that my oldest son is named Cal L.) I'm not seeing Morrison's take as completely new, just more detailed... I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Plus I also got the digital version of JL #1 and love the comiXology ap. It's a nice way to read the book.

Man, waaaaaay too many Batman books with this reboot. I'm a big Batman fan, but that's just ridiculous. Hard enough keeping up with Fables, Buffy, Angel & faith, the Guild and anything Joss Whedon related. This hobby is getting too expensive

Which is why all comics should return to $1.25 a piece...I'll settle for $1.99, though.

Or a great discount on digital copies... Yes I realize that I brought up the never ending Physical vs Digital price point on comics or games.

Agreed, but I like to think I'm supporting good writing when buying Whedon's material and not just buying a comic. Same with anything Lynch writes.
I'm revisiting SECRET WARS. Wow. So cliche, but still a lot of fun.

Ah man, I forgot about Lynch. Got to keep up to date with whatever he's doing too
I had a pretty good run of luck going to my local comic shop today. I grabbed the last issue of Justice League # 1. The store owner told me he ordered a huge shipment that came in yesterday and today It's already gone with me getting the last issue. They made a ton of money on this JL reboot it seems
I also found the latest issue of Fables that I needed going through their back issues and I picked up the very last copy of Angel and Faith # 1. I finished reading it and was excellent. I loved the art and the writing. Fantastic stuff they set up with new characters, a familiar face from the past and a surprise revelation from Angel on the last page. The chemistry between Faith and Angel is perfect and just feels like the natural progression of where they left off in Angel season 4. It feels like an Angel/Faith team up should have happened ages ago. There is so much they can explore with these two. One thing they briefly touched on that I found interesting is how differently the slayer community at large views Faith and Buffy. They each seem to have their own individual reputations now and there are various rumors regarding their interactions with eachother as well. I'd like to see that explored more as the two characters go about their individual adventures in their own books, the way in which the rest of the world views the two of them.
