Playing with folks from this site sounds fun so I'm going to give it a try again since this is not a deathmatch type of game.

Anyway, if anyone doesn't mind mentoring a new player and you see me on steam (id - spacebooger) or use my gamespy id - TheSpaceBooger I would appreciate joining in a game or two.
Added you on Gamespy. I'll look for you on Steam.

I don't want to buy a game that is known for its multiplayer and not have anyone to play along with.
Question for Racketboy Community: I've read that with no chat you shouldn't play multiplayer. Do PC Borderlands players also expect you to have voice chat? I only just got the game and would like to try mulitplayer but I only have an Internet connection at work.

I figure it's best to ask here before I lug my PC into work only to get booted for not having chat. I understand if it's not very feasible to multiplay with no chat but until I get Internet back at home again, I probably shouldn't invest in mics, Steam, or MMO's.

Still though, if someone is willing to meet up for some multiplay, I'd really like to try it. I have a level 11 or so Siren and would be willing to make a new character to play along super booger or any one else. I am on US Eastern Standard time and usually like weekdays after 5pm or weekends. Feedback as to why multiplay with no chat is useful too, if a little less welcome.

I played some multiplayer last night for the first time since picking the game up last week and had a good time with Hobie, Sevin, and Simple for a few hours. I hope to do it again soon - later evenings (EST) work best for me as well.

As for the mic - it was quite useful because they could answer questions about the game (since I am new and they are vets), coordinate movement, call for help, etc. It was also fun verbally taunting Sevin as I ran him over time and again with my buggy :D So yes, I'd pick up a cheap mic for a few bucks and go that route if you can. If not, you can still join in and play, but you might miss out on some of what makes it a fun experience.

Voice chat is useful for coordinating and is built into the game. There's supposedly text chat in game (T) but I haven't tried it. You'll probably need to communicate every now and then with others in the game, but depending on how much you've played other Co-op games and the chattiness of the others it might be more or less necessary. Most of the Border games I've been playing we've been pretty quiet. Though admittedly I've been sort of leading most of them since I'd already played through on my own so chatting was mostly mentioning health or weapons that might be good for someone else and the occasional joking banter. Last night's game was mostly joking banter though. :D

You'd still be able to hear chat from other people without a mic though, so depending on how much you needed to say, it might not be so bad to try with the text chat thing. Everyone I've played with on here is pretty paid back. I haven't played with any random internet people, so I don't know how uptight they are about someone without a mic. Any cheapo mic that windows recognizes will work though. So might be worth looking for one for a few dollars even at Goodwill or maybe even a dollar store or Big Lots.

Thank you for your replies. Are you guys playing any evenings this week? Let me know and I will pick up a mic and look for you. ....or I will use the text chat option if no one minds. Been having a blast with BL...looking forward to trying the multiplayer, too.

Hobie-wan,
Why don't you update the first post of this thread with everyone's gamespy id. If you do then we can sticky it like we did for the consoles.
We could add Gamespy to the name of the thread too.
