Shadow Complex was at the right place at the right time, ie early XBLA junk when that was all the rave and OMG a Metroidvania!
I enjoyed it at the time but I have had zero desire to revisit it.

FWIW that game also looked WAY better than any downloadable game at the time and felt like a steal at $15 when (at the time) I didn't think there were many XBLA games worthy of a $15 price tag.Xeogred wrote:Shadow Complex was at the right place at the right time, ie early XBLA junk when that was all the rave and OMG a Metroidvania!

One of the few games I've beaten twice and the only one I've 100%'ed. That said it's not one of my favorite games of all time or anything, but although the story was generic it was pretty damn good for a downloadable title and again: at a time where there weren't awesome $10-$20 coming out every two weeks.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I, for one, enjoyed the heck out of Shadow Complex.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
In hindsight I should have played it before Axiom Verge, or at least not immediately afterwards.

Just rediscovered Akuji the Demon, an old Metroidvania game I was a fan of in high school.
Also, the page I found it on, OtakuWorld, is like a bizarre time-capsule of 1998 internet and that's wonderful.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
So, to catch up on my what I've been gaming, I've platted Catherine and finished the Plat and 100% for Heavy Rain and Doom:Classic Complete respectively, and now I'm about half(?) through with Okami. I'm loving it, but its starting to drag juuust a bit. If there was a bit more variety in environments and such I think there wouldn't be as much of an issue.
And to hell with those wheel enemies. Hate those things.

Any of you fans of DSiWare/eShop games (prfsnl_gmr?) have an opinion of the "G.G Series" of Japanese budget titles?? Some look neat, some look like slop. In Japan they got a physical compilation of these games on the DS!

That's awesome. I did not know that existed, and I now want it very badly.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Any of you fans of DSiWare/eShop games (prfsnl_gmr?) have an opinion of the "G.G Series" of Japanese budget titles?? From what I have read, the G.G. Series games are hit-or-miss. I read through almost all of Nintendolife's reviews, and I picked up every game that rated 8/10 or higher.
All of the games are, as you might expect, pretty basic, but highlights like All Breaker, Drilling Attack, Great Whip Adventure, Hidden Ninja Kagemaru, Wonderland, etc. are all pretty engaging.
.....
Be careful with downloading too many DSiWare games, though. To be playable, they have to be stored on the system's internal memory, which is pretty limited. (Believe it or not, I filled mine up!) You hold onto them if you move them to a memory card, but you have to move them back to the internal memory to make them playable again.
.....
Some non-G.G. series DSiWare games I recommend:
Alt-Play
Color Commando
Commando Steel Disaster
Dragon Quest Wars
X-Scape
You should also note that some DSiWare games received full, physical, retail releases. (Commando Steel Disaster is one such game.)

Thanks for the tips. You are truly the digital Nintendo master.
I downloaded The Last Knight, despite poor reviews. I seem to take a liking to any cheap digital RPGs. I'll get Wonderland next, that looks pretty swell.
