Those were made and marketed to rental places specifically so they wouldn't have to mess with books getting lost. I've seen a few different types though the years. I'm pretty sure the place I rented NES games from back in the day had something different in a few of the games too.Michi wrote: And this one is sans original game manual, but as you can see someone printed out the instructions and glued it to the inside cover.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Answered a Craigslist ad and came away with this:

*Not pictured: Ahh! Real Monsters and Jungle Book cart only

My god, there're more zappers than controller ports! Also Defender of the Crown and Flying Dragon

Finally, the reason I answered the ad, this super slick Colecovision.

Also, this weird Merlin thing the seller threw in. Kind of kitsch. Not really sure what I'll do with it yet.

Total damage was $180.
Sadness: One of the N64 power units seems to be dead. Also, I found out after getting home that there wasn't a power supply for the NES; I tried using a model 1 genesis PSU and was greeted with a blinking power light. Hoping I was just wrong in assuming that a model 1 Gen PSU will power an NES....
Much less happy with the price after these realizations.
Going to need to go over a lot of this stuff pretty thoroughly to clean it, but the Colecovision is even prettier than I had imagined it would be. If I had a box for it, it might be one of the best pieces in my console collection. I have no idea how I'm going to hook it up, at the moment, though. God help me if it turns out it doesn't work....
In other news, I got FFX-2 International + Final Mission and Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2 for $12 each (shipped). I got screwed out of 4 dollars in shipping because of the order in which I purchased them, though. Still pretty pissed about that, but FFX-2 showed up in such incredible condition that I'm starting to be able to deal with it.

An NES works just fine with a model 1 Genny PSU. The blinking power light just probably means that the cart(s) were not connecting well. Clean the cards and fix that 72-pin connector inside (about 15-30 minutes work. All you need is a Philips screwdriver and a safety pin).pierrot wrote:Also, I found out after getting home that there wasn't a power supply for the NES; I tried using a model 1 genesis PSU and was greeted with a blinking power light. Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I just got the deal of the month, easy. I was looking for an Atari 7800, as my old one got modded back when I wasn't being so picky about looks, and the color adjustment pot is in a place that annoys me.
Lo and behold a friend of mine is trying to dump one. All I know is he's got "some games". Come to find out he was just selling it for ANOTHER friend, and he had been absently trying to do so for a couple years, so when I asked him what he wanted, he goes "Whatever's reasonable". I offered $50, as that was my hard limit looking for a system on ebay.
Well I went to get it today and "some games" was an understatement. Here's the haul:
Atari 7800 system with appropriate wires
2 controllers, paddle controller, keypad controller
Bunch of manuals (haven't looked yet)
Loose Games (mix of 2600 and 7800, some with very old labels, most looking immaculate)
Total: 53 loose carts for 52 games
But the fun doesn't stop there! He then opened a SECOND box. What is in there? I can't believe my forking eyes, there's SEALED GAMES IN THERE!
SEALED CARTS?!?
Total: 35(!!!) sealed boxes
So yeah... I just got the deal of the month, at least. I don't even know where to begin with this. I'm not a sealed box collector, never have been! (Yes this means feel free to PM with reasonable offers)

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
RF switches are cheap at radio shack. Don't try to use an NES one, they don't really work - you can KINDA see a picture, but it's allll blurry and fuzzy, I can only assume because they weren't built to have a powered RF switch, it won't work with one. Or you can get a straight adapter, no switch, dirt cheap too.pierrot wrote:Finally, the reason I answered the ad, this super slick Colecovision.

Then there's always the Modding path (reason I just bought a second coleco - gonna do a Component mod to it once the guy on AA comes up with more boards to do it) to get even better connection.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Well that's encouraging. I was afraid it was a more serious power issue.Breetai wrote:An NES works just fine with a model 1 Genny PSU. I have an rf cable with it, and two antenna switch boxes, but nothing to convert the antenna connection or rf into a coaxial input, so I'll probably be taking a trip to radioshack for something.KalessinDB wrote:RF switches are cheap at radio shack. Component for RGB? Aren't PAL units the only ones that can output RGB?
Nice Atari haul, by the way.

NES and Genesis power supplies are not interchangeable. One is AC and the other is DCpierrot wrote:Well that's encouraging.
