I've found so much awesome stuff over the years for cheap, but I really can't go wrong with how I got my SNES. Close to the time Chrono Trigger came out, was yard saling. Went to one and a guy was selling his SNES and games... and he had all the good RPGs. I didn't bring my $100 I'd saved, so I had to hit the parents up for money temporarily, and couldn't buy all the games I wanted that he had (so no Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, and another I can't remember), but I got the best of all: Final Fantasy III. So for $55, I had a SNES with a boxed copy of FFIII, and to say that I was ecstatic is a massive, massive understatement. I still use that SNES, it's hooked up to the TV with an SD2SNES sitting in the slot.

I also managed to snag a complete copy of Chrono Trigger back in the day for $15. My copy of Earthbound ran me $6. Recently, I snagged a copy of Sparkster for $5. I like to say I have no luck, but I'm not entirely sure it applies to gaming, I find some pretty cool stuff, even in Mississippi!

I just ordered a retron 5. Any suggestions on imports I should get that have translations? Also where is a good place to get them. Prices seems to be way up on all carts anymore.

Well the Japanese carts that would need translations really aren't up since most people don't have an R5 or in our area of the world don't know Japanese. I think it was a few days back in this thread, or in this area of the forum but a link was dropped to a mediafire account which has a crap load of translations and usable hacks to existing US games ready to be tossed on a SD card and left in the back of your R5 system.

Much of what is translated entirely at this rate for the Super Famicom and Famicom are very worth your while, so I'd just search for 100% complete translations of games we didn't get in the NA market. That'll be the best start, taste in games will go the rest of the way.

To add, there are also plenty of games that don't really need translations as well (import friendly). For example, you can literally almost grab all three DKC games for the price of one US version. However, while the game will be in Japanese, there is almost no need for a translation.

So, if I were to get a Retron 5, where would be the best place to get it? I'm assuming they've fixed a lot of the problems with the cart connectors and whatnot, right? The biggest reason I'd want one is to suck off all the save games that I have, and in a lot of ways it makes more sense than getting a Retrode, especially since that's discontinued now.

I think amazon had it for 20% off someone said here a day or so ago, someone did if it wasn't them. The problems with the hardware were all resolved other than the opinion of some on the controller being junk or not. The construction of it was revised, it's no longer flimsy in the frame or the pins. The latest firmware has corrected so much compared to launch it's nuts. The addition of things it does it didn't when it came out (IPS/UPS patching) is big as you can imagine. And yes you can use it as a dexdrive of sorts because you can dump any save data off a game to the system to back it up and then restore later to that cart or another. Those saves I believe(never tried it) you can then even put on your PC too using the SD card and a copy feature.

Ferret good point, there's a lot of quality games that were brought over that may have no language at all and cost less, especially in bulk packages.

So how would one be sure they were purchasing the revised Retron 5 model?
Or are all new ones being shipped out now part of that new revised batch?

I ask because I think I read somewhere that the gray model on Amazon is still the older model whereas the black version is the revised Retron 5.
Don't know if that's a bunch of baloney or not.
