Nintendo is like PC gaming. Happily doomed and dying since the late 90s. :roll: :lol:
I figure for a lot of the people here, they're just mad that Nintendo beat Sega.
@MrPoPo

I am not loyal to Sega in any way, in fact I am more of a Nintendo guy(and owned more Nintendo console) than any other manufacturer and I believe Mario is the franchise I played most.

@Ryanthe Slaya + ZenErik

here is the issue , supposedly Wii U fails or break even , let us not forget that Nintendo is a business and its looking to make a buck. If it finds that its too risky to enter the console market they won't , and lets not forget less money made on one console means smaller budget for developing the next console. If you are worried that Nintendo is going to shut down it probably will not. Sega is still around too , but I was talking about Nintendo getting out of the console market. Nintendo probably has a monopoly on handhelds by now , but looking into the future I am not sure how long that will hold. I just played Bastion on an iPad , it sells for $5 , its awesome and very convenient to carry your games IN the handheld. Its much better than to get a dedicated gaming device for $180 , buy games at $30 each , and have to carry the cartridges with you. Let us not forget the Android devices.

Some people here are dedicated gamers and cant see their future without dedicated gaming handhelds but you have to see the whole picture, how many people out there willing to continue to buy a dedicated hand-held gaming device to carry around. Yes I know not everyone owns an iphone, but I believe those who do are the same consumer category that are targeted to buy 3DS and games at $30 each.

May I include that Apple announced they sold 500 million iOS devices compared to 30m for the 3DS. I am not comparing sales numbers, I just want to point out that for a developer who is trying to make money , where do you think his eyes are? Even more , I believe iOS devices are more powerful than the 3DS. I can be wrong though...

Call me crazy but the only way I see Nintendo getting out of this is Nintendo creating their own "phone" device.

The above is my opinion it can be right or it can be wrong.

PC gaming is a different story. I can not comment about the era between PC's hey day in '98 up to '07 , but games failing on PC does not mean anything simply because the platform maker will always be around , in this case Microsoft. It does not hurt Microsoft if people do not play games full stop for 10 years. After 10 years they can pick up right off, on the opposite of Nintendo that depends ONLY on games if they do not make it in the gaming market its over for them. Also Microsoft does not really have a competitor in the PC world(they own like 85% of the market) on the opposite of Nintendo where Sony and Microsoft are eating their marketshare away(Excluding the individual case of the Wii) .

My speculation ? Nintendo's last console will be the one after the Wii U if they continue to walk the same path they are walking now without change.

The gaming market is larger than it's ever been before. The iOS and Android side of it has certainly grown into a respectable market for games but it's not going to be a replacement for a dedicated gaming device, whether it be consoles or a handheld. Don't you think they can coexist? Why wouldn't they be able to?

Those devices are great machines and can do a wide variety of neat things, but where's the steady stream of quality content for gamers? It's not really there. Gamers will go where content is. Nintendo delivered games that interested people and 3DS sales went up, crazy I know. The Vita on the contrary, hasn't resonated with the public because there's frankly not enough content for most people yet.

If somebody buys a Android tablet or iPad for the sole reason of playing games I'd question whether or not they were even a gamer to begin with. The games are cheap and readily available, sure. Most everyone has a computer or laptop of some kind and games are stupid cheap on Steam, why isn't everyone migrating to playing small and simple games on their computer? (Whatever happened to all those Web games and Facebook games anyway? Did they finally die down a little bit?)

Unless it has buttons, no one will care. ;D

Pretty sure Nintendo is more worried about Sony and Microsoft on the console front.

Lets give it another 5 years and see how this next generation turns out before we proclaim that Nintendo's next console will be their last. Who knows what things will be like in 2018? Not I.

Hasn't that been the prediction ever since the N64 launched?

It's no fun to be positive on the internet, haven't you heard?

Nintendo confirms CoD Ghosts via twitter.

Awesome news- as I love the Infinity Ward produced titles. I might get it on Wii U instead of PS3... although that might depend on if the Wii U is getting any DLC.

We are all speculating , never in a millions years we would have thought the Wii will surpass 360 and ps3 given how under-powered it is in comparison. This thread is named Wii-U thoughts SO FAR so we are just giving an opinion on what we already have.

Things can definitely turn around. I can see Nintendo releasing some secret new IP that will be a great multiplayer . Maybe you can save a character to your WIi tablet and 4 or more people take it to their friends and fight against each other based on the character that is saved/living in their tablets. If Nintendo picks up a different path which I recommend I WILL support the WIi U, but if it is going to be the usual Miis and Carnival Games I just dunno if that is going to get hold the attention of the consumer with just a $50 difference in price between it and ps4.

@Mr. PoPo

looking back in retrospect I can definitely see why people would say that. Just see how SNES was dominant and next generation they lost exclusives, psx sold like 3x the N64, the limits of the cartridge and probably the over all small library in comparison to the PSX. I am not so sure why people were upset with the Gamecube , it had great games, fun multiplayers , some good exclusives like Battalion Wars/Eternal Darkness/Giest/ , not to mention multiplats are just as good as the ones on the competitor's system including stuff like RE4, Prince of Persia, Killer 7, TimeSplitters 2 (In comparison we can not say that Black Ops on the Wii is just as good as the ps3 version). Low sales of the GC(lowest selling Nintendo console?) probably made people speculate that the Wii with a lot less powerful hardware will lose against monsters like 360.

Nintendo is not necessarly going to shut down but it can be growing weaker and weaker over time in the console area (Except for the Wii) . Seems like the best selling Nintendo console was the NES and sales was downwards from there on until it hit the Wii . (60m/nes->50m/snes->30/N64->20m/GC-99m/Wii/ )

@CavZee

Comparing laptops to 3DS is very different from iPhones to 3DS. Even if it could run 3DS similar games its just so much more expensive and very different in form. Thats like saying people will not buy iPods because stereo systems can play digital music too.

They can co-exist I just meant that Nintendo's sales is going to decline big time especially when you compare the game prices on both iOS/Android to 3DS.

A Nintendo phone can have as many buttons as it wants , and I won't lie to you , if the games are there I just might get me one!

Laptops don't cost anymore than an iPad does. I only brought them up because of how indie games are starting to boom and are easily available and cheap on PCs, a device most everyone already has. Similar to cell phone games right?

I'm aware we're just speculating. So, I'll join in.

The Wii U gets last place in the console war, similar to the GameCube. The 3DS continues it's positive momentun despite competition from mobile devices.The bulk of 3DS sales come from Japan where it will absolutely ddominate. It won't quite reach DS levels of profit though.

Mobile gaming may increase it's presence more than it already has but it will never insert itself amongst the big three as a major player, especially amongst gamers like us. Sony and Microsoft will continue their war against each other while Nintendo will continue doing their own thing. The mobile market is virtually a free for all amongst hardware makers and developers and as such will never "take over".

Mobile gaming is huge, especially the expensive iPhone which has maybe the biggest cut? The dedicated portable console is better as far as the control buttons versus a touch screen phone. However, the convenience of always having a gaming device on the go is why I think eventually the dedicated portable game device will lose the market.
