DKC 3 (SNES)
The Witcher 2 (360)

Made it to razer's ridge in one sitting on DKC 3, which is farther than I ever made it before when I played this as a kid. Never remembered the game to be so easy.

Vanquish so far has been pretty good. The combat is really fluid with a lot of focus on moving rapidly around the map and using slow mo. The story however is kind of flat and I am starting to notice a few things which bug me. The two biggest annoyances are no auto aim and having to manually pick up ammo :P. Was really hoping for something similar to Binary Domain since it is one of my favorite TPS of all time, but this isn't quite scratching the itch might have to do another play through of BD soon.

Fragile Dreams is also going great. The atmosphere is pretty cool and the story seems interesting enough. Where the game really shines though is in its use of the speaker in the motion controller. You have to use sounds transmitted by the controller to locate certain events and life forms when exploring the environment and you can receive tips by holding it to your head like a radio. Controls at first were very touchy but after I got the hang of them it feels like a very smooth and engaging experience. Only issue I ran into so far was the young female characters outfit. It is a bit to revealing especially for a younger girl and it is somewhat awkward.

Got a few more hours into Vanquish so far the story is pretty bland and the combat is getting to be really repetitive. The boss battles are somewhat interesting, but once again they get really repetitive. It even gets to the point that instead of adding a new boss type they will just have you fight two previous boss models at the same time :P. I will give them points for the set pieces and effects though this game looks amazing and I have only had slow down once or twice which is amazing given the number of enemies on screen and the amount of detail in the characters and map. I just wish they had invested some more time in the story I almost feel like I am playing an Arcade game with a very loose plot that gives you just enough to keep going onwards from location to location.

I highly recommend picking up Binary Domain instead. It is better then Vanquish in almost every imaginable way :P. The only downside is it had a somewhat horrible voice command system for allies, but thankfully that could be disabled in exchange for preset commands and dialogue options. Overall it has a much better story, a variety of characters which you are pushed into game altering relationships with, awesome boss battles and set pieces, and a leveling system. Plus player choice plays a huge role in the game there are multiple endings and the story can go in a variety of ways depending on how you spend your time with the 5-6 available Ai companions. About the only thing that you will be missing out on is the Boost and Slow Mo system.

P.S. Can anyone who has played Vanquish tell me if all the weapon upgrades do is increase ammo capacity? Spent about 7 upgrades on my Heavy Machine Gun and all the message ever says is max ammo increased by 80 :P even though I can't seem to hold more then 300-400 rounds even though it continues to let me upgrade.

Playing fire emblem sacred stones on my 3DS. 11 hours in and I've chosen Ephraims path. Seth is still 100% OP this late in the game, making me believe he dies. Don't spoil and say if he does or anything though, I'm just guessing and want to find out on my own.

Rogue Legacy. It's a wonderful Metroidvania-style game in which a knight and his descendents work to conquer an ever-changing castle. Each time the player dies, he must then choose from one of three children in the family tree, leading to generations of warriors who have fought and died to defeat the castle's master. Money earned in the ancestor's run can then be invested into the family castle to build stronger generations or used to purchase hereditary equipment and runes from blueprints found in the dungeon. But the children can be various classes, have different magic attacks, and also may suffer (or benefit from) a variety of medical conditions which can affect how they play: case-in-point, a character may have dwarfism, which makes them small. This has benefits (smaller target to get hit, can access small passageways his full-sized siblings would not be able to use) and drawbacks (attack range is much smaller, so you have to get closer to hit). Not every condition may influence play, such as being bald (which has no impact beyond changing your character's image.

I've beaten three of the four bosses before the final boss, and once they are dead, they stay permanently dead. Hopefully I'll beat the game sometime by the end of the week.

@Fragems: Cool to hear some thoughts on Binary Domain. Isn't it by the Yakuza team or something? lol.

On a little side note though I wouldn't try to measure up Platinum Games' plots to anything out there though. Metal Gear Rising is the same way. You just go in for the explosive B-grade cheese with amazing gameplay (usually). Fun charm and all. Should be hitting that one up soon myself... was talking to bruno here about Vanquish and Lost Planet, etc recently, I have to say watching videos back to back, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the ex-Capcom/LP devs were the ones behind Vanquish. Looks so similar it's crazy.

Rising was definitely awesome if you're craving Japanese action game fun, which has been pretty thin this gen compared to the last.

Going back to the NES to mix in with my GC/GBA stuff. Found a game that I, nor many here give much attention to -

8 Eyes

On the surface, it could be easily described as a Castlevania clone. Large, stair filled levels, enemies look almost the same, and weapons very similar to those games. But there's a lot more. International locations, your falcon ally Cutrus, and a Mega Man style chain system that ensures you better pick the right levels or else find some difficult times ahead.
