1. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

This franchise has already become one of my favorites. I really enjoy the story and presentation. I'm currently playing the 2nd and enjoying it just as much as the first. The music and humor really make this game for me.

Slow year... I've been playing lots of games that you can't really "beat". Don't Starve, gmod, Minecraft, PSO2, SSB, etc.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (GameBoy version), on Normal Mode.

Like MMPR's previous GameBoy outing, it's a side-scrolling beat-em-up, though this time new features are added and make the game slightly more enjoyable. Despite this, it's one of the better portable Power Rangers games for a handheld, right behind the GBC version of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue IMHO. But the console ports blow it out of the water.

Bangai-O
I beat this for the summer games marathon, and posted my thoughts there. They're copied below:
Spent this morning playing through the last few levels of Bangai-O. I'd played through to stage 35 yesterday, so I only had 9 left. Most of them took quite a few attempts though.

The ;ast stage and boss in particular were incredibly unfair - the stage itself wasn't so bad, but it was pretty long and it's the type of game where a simple mistake can cause you to have to restart. It took about 2 hours to beat this stage - the rest of the game all in took maybe 4-5. I was getting pretty pissed off at repeating the level over and over only to die in half a second against the final boss, I can tell you.

The game is a lot of fun, although I feel many of the mechanics have been improved on in it's DS successor. I quite like being able to switch between bouncing and homing shots, but the DS one let you switch any 2 of 4 guns (which could be combined together too) or 3 other melee and defensive weapons, plus allowed your super scattershot to be set with a different type of shot too, allowing more versatility. The controls feel smoother on DS too, and I missed being able to stop and aim on the DC version. The DS tends to have smaller more focused stages aswell, which I feel suit the gameplay better, as well as a lot more (over 200 to the DC's 44), plus custom stages, more enemy variety and more control options. Basically, the DS version did more, better.

However, that's not to detract from what is here - the game is fast paced and fun, with delightfully poorly translated and surreal story. Even with the nigh incomprehensible babbling going on it managed to make me laugh with a few of the things it said. Seeing the console slow down when more stuff is on screen (especially if you can fire off multiple max shots of 400 missiles at once and cause the console to almost give up trying

Overall, the game is quirky and fun and worth picking up. It's not treasure's best game, and it'snot even the best game in its own series, but it's very enjoyable and perfect for a quick blast.
Learn with Pokémon: Typing Adventure
This one is a pretty bizarre little game for the DS where you must type Pokémon names as they appear on the DS screen using a bundled bluetooth keyboard in order to research them by throwing 'typing balls' at them (honestly) for Professor Quentin Werty (really) and his assistant Paige Down (I'm not making this up).

The game is simple but fun and hectic, and the game mixes the mechanics up with extra elements such as stage hazards to take out (by typing letters, or on later levels, punctuation), pokemon attacks to block (by typing), split paths to take (decided by typing) and lights to turn on (by typi....oh you get the idea!).

Each stage (one for every key on the included keyboard) has a unique selection pokemon to catch and 3 medals to achieve for various tasks such as chaining pokemon without typos, catching a certain number, achieving a high score etc. It's very compelling and definitely has a one more go factor.

One negative is that actually it doesnt do a great job of teaching touch typing - a few early tutorials is your lot, and then you can play without doing so (which I did). Knowing pokémon names gives an advantage too, not only because you can recognize them and start typing before the letters appear on screen, but also because you know some of the batshit crazy spellings to expect (a typing game with words like Conkeldurr and Feraligatr is an odd typing game!). The game also expects you to type spaces, numbers and punctuation correctly on Pokémon names that include them (Farfetch'd, Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Mime Jr., Mr. Mime).

My favourite thing about the game is the games voice over lady, who I have christened 'Angry insane shouty posh pokémon lady'. She shouts everything at you - scalding you, egging you on, announcing pokemon names, medals earned, high scores, whether you caught them all - it's constant and hilariously over the top, but some could find it annoying I guess.

The included bluetooth keyboard is a bit small, but feels really sturdy and comfortable, and actually comes across as a very high quality product I'd be happy to use on other devices if I needed to (it's a standard bluetooth keybaord so it works with any bluetooth compatible device).

Overall it's a silly little game that can be picked up from cheap (in Europe, no North American release!) and is definitely worth it. I was thoroughly entertained the whole way through. You will notice, however, that my typing isn't really any less full of typos than usual, so it's perhaps not the best teaching aid!

Next up: Probably time to jump into MGS2 and Ristar for the summer challenge, plus I'm playing Pokémon Black.

Holy green mustaches mario this game is amazing. Besides some minor annoyances with the game, touchscreen controls are not as reliable like nintendo likes to think, but i liked everything in this game. It dosen't takes itself seriously like any other RPG's i always see and the combat keeps me engaged in the battle constantly, the combat is quick time event city but it works so i dont care! A huge giant plus is that you play as freaking bowser most of the time. Yes you play as a a giant firebreathing bull dragon turtle who can smash giant rocks on his path.

In case you didn't notice i really liked this game, you can consider myself a fan of this series after this game.

1. Ogre Battle - PS1
2. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - PC
3. The Banner Saga - PC
4. Papers, Please - PC
5. Tactics Ogre LUCT - PSP (on Vita)

Finally took this one out. One of my all-time favorite games. I am actually still playing this one. I finished the law route ending. Now I am going through the world function unlocking the other paths and characters and will be doing the extra post game dungeons. So probably many more hours of gameplay left.

Games Beaten 2014
January-June
Spider - iOS *new*
Metal Torrent NDS *new*

Total: 52

Games Beaten: 2013 2012 2011 2010

Starting off the back half with some portable titles...

Spider's a pretty great iOS title. Thanks for suggesting it Stark.

Metal Torrent is maybe the only shmup I can beat without losing a life, let alone losing a credit. Simple, but fun.
