Agreed. I don't have the kind of income or space that would be necessary for the miniatures, but I absolutely love the Warhammer 40k lore. There have been some wonderful games over the years too...as well as some not so great ones. But the dark and brutal universe is well-represented. 40k has one of my favorite representations of humanity in the far future. We're crazy. It's fantastic.
Actually, 40k is releasing a child focused line next Monday at hobby and whitebox stores. Thats right, 40k starter set at Truevalue/ToyRus/Michaels, etc:
$50 for the starter with a very limited set of expansions from the get go:
All priced at $30 or below. The important part here is that not only is it going to be at whitebox stores, it is priced at a scheme to fall in line with existing models also at hobby stores. It will also be simplified, but nothing actual 40k books cant fix. Of note, the figures fall more into the style of the mid 90s 40k figures:

Less fiddly bits, slightly less detail. More of a game.
