I'm pretty sure you can pull it off once you have Healmore, although I'm thinking you might have to have Hurtmore as well at that low a level to do decent damage. It's been a while. I'm wanting to say the lowest level I've ever pulled it off at was 18. Might have been 19, dunno. It takes a lot of luck at that level, regardless.
Also, I didn't realize it, but your name actually determines your stat growth, at least in the original release. Turns out my name lends to one of the stronger builds, a bit more melee oriented with some extra HP.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
18 seems to be the minimum.

Also just a lot of fun tidbits in the explanation of how things work. When you consider how much time grinding takes if it could be done at 17 then the segmented run would go for a level 17 victory.

"ENIX" supposedly yields a weaker character.Sarge wrote:I'm pretty sure you can pull it off once you have Healmore, although I'm thinking you might have to have Hurtmore as well at that low a level to do decent damage. Yeah I've definitely been shooting for overkill for in this run. At one point I had even considered going for a full level cap run (something I've never done with Dragon Quest I). I've been playing it on PSP as a before bed game. This has worked out pretty well, since I can just grind until I get tired, which has been a nice relaxing way to unwind before bed. I've even fallen asleep mid-battle a few times while playing.
Super interesting link Popo!

The write-ups for games on Speed Demos Archive are quite interesting. Most of those games have been played super heavily and they spend a lot of time really understanding the underlying mechanics of how the game was built and functions. My favorite parts of the AGDQ/SGDQ runs are when they have good commentators explaining how this Sonic 2 zip works.

There's a calculator that works out your chances of winning against him. I had one of the weaker builds possible, and at level 19 it calculated that I would have 2% chance of winning. At 20, I had 92%.nullPointer wrote:Wow, I'm currently playing through of Dragon Quest right now (SFC English translation ... along side King's FieldExhuminator wrote:Tomorrow, May 27th, Dragon Quest will officially be thirty years old.
We can talk about it proper tomorrow. For now, just let that realization sink in.). I'm pretty much just doing the obligatory end game grind before facing off against the Dragonlord. Now I'm going to make a concerted effort to beat it tomorrow on the anniversary. Actually it probably won't take that much effort; lvl 25 should be sufficient to finally end the reign of the despicable Lord of Dragons.
At 25 I feel you would have to do something really wrong in order to fail.
This was for the NES game though, might be different on SFC.

I wonder if reviewing Sengoku Rance would be career-ending or would simply be ignored except by the nerds that already know of it.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
That is fascinating. My build averaged a bit over 3% for a chance to win at level 18. Shoots up to 77% or so with one more level. So mine was indeed one of the stronger builds, geared towards strength and agility on long-term growth.

I've apparently grown fat and lazy on FPS's and RPG's. I have yet to actually get into the cave at the start of Super Empire. I wasn't this bad at it back when I first used to rent it as a kid; there I'd simply die before getting into the second cave.
