Just finished The Invisibles and The Filth. I get the feeling Morrison wants very much to be a cross between Moore and Burroughs, but his reach exceeds his grasp.

as far as DC goes, I picked up the Batman/Flash crossover mini-series "The Button" mainly because it kind of related to Watchmen. I have one issue left to read but it's been pretty meh.

I read the first um, seven issues of Supergirl and kind of want to bail on it. The "Being Super" mini-series on the other hand has been amazing. There's one issue left and I'm bummed.

I was gifted a subscription to Batgirl, so I read that and like it quite a bit.

The Button (I just got caught up on a couple DC titles) was meh... and I am one of the biggest DC fanboys ever. The Superman arc cleared up more of the blending of the New52 and Rebirth than "The Button" did.
The most recent arc of Nightwing was awesome - it was throwback to when Dick and Damian were Batman and Robin vs Dr Hurt.

I've been mostly reading some of the recentish DC stuff and enjoying it. Really love Azzarello's run on Wonder Woman, John's Aquaman and then an event story that isn't a garbage fire with Forever Evil. Lots of cool stuff. Trinity War was kind of a mess but Darkseid war was some big dumb stuff.

Aquaman is, and has always been, one of my favorite heroes. The New52 and Geoff Johns did a great job making him releveant again.

Started reading The Clean Room. Wow. The art is fantastic, and Gail Simone is telling a DARK tale. I don't remember most of her DC titles being this dark. Her Kickstarted project was also pretty dark.

Also reread vol 2 of Umbrella Academy. Cannot wait for 3.

And Paper Girls 3 is finally out and fantastic! Does Brian K Vaughn do anything that sucks? Cause all his comics output is great.

SB: I was pretty furious after reading "The Button." It was such a huge let down. The two Batman issues were better than the Flash ones. But ugh. Just wasted potential. And yet, I'm still excited about Doomsday Clock. Because I'm a pushover.

Regarding Batman, are you reading "The War Of Jokes & Riddles" right now? I've read the first couple issues and am enjoying it.

I'm looking at picking up a subscription to Heavy Metal. Anyone have any experience with that?

Also looking at getting into Hellboy, Fables, The Goon, and picking up a bunch of Conan stuff I'm missing. Maybe Jonah Hex Volume 2 in the future, but the art switching is a bit jarring.

I just found out Elizabeth Olsen will be at RI ComiCon. Nice!

Would it be weird if I had her sign Scarlet Witch #1? I mean... she had nothing to do w/ the comic book itself. But still.

Finished The Wicked + The Divine vol. 4 last night. Great book in a great series.
Also finished Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol. Morrison is not as good a writer as everyone holds him up to be. He's OK, but I get the feeling his approach to Doom Patrol is embodied perfectly by his Brotherhood of Dada bits: he writes weirdness for the sake of being weird. No substance behind the surface lurks.

I read Marvel Masterworks Dr. Strange after going to see the movie.

This reprints runs from "Strange Tales" circa 1963. This is some original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko work here. Brazenly bizarre, even for its time. Ditko's use of heavy, thick, black lines against vivid colors is certainly striking compared to the thinner lines and relatively muted colors of his contemporaries. Ditko's art isn't exactly beautiful, but I give him credit for standing apart from the pack.

I confess that I sometimes find "Strange Tales" hard to read for long stretches. I grew up in an era where longer story arcs where already an established convention in comic books, but Stan Lee wrote a lot of these comics as stand-alone stories. Sometimes further issues of "Strange Tales" would recall a previous issue, but it feels more like a push to sell back copies more than a continuation of the previous story. I find it's more enjoyable to read a single issue and put the book down for a time.
