CFW is for more than just piracy. Honestly (even though I haven't installed it yet), the Virtual Boy emulator was one of my biggest draws. I
love my Virtual Boy, but I would also love to have a more portable version of it. Also useful, playing out of region games. You could make the argument that yes, it's still circumventing Nintendo's copy protection, but in my eyes circumventing that protection to play games that you legally purchased is signficantly
less wrong than pirating games.
But yeah,
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki is a full guide that takes you through it (assuming you haven't updated to 11.0.0 - if you have, you're currently SOL, but everything 10.7 and below is kosher)... I found it from reddit's 3dshacks forum. It's long (took me the better part of a day because of all the backups and copying NANDs and whatnot) but that just means there's almost no chance for you to screw it up because of all of those backups. Arm9LoaderHax or A9LH is the specific hack you want. I did that on my 3DS immediately (it came with 9.9 I think?) and am now rocking out on 11.0 with no problems and still full control of my system.
