Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The notification isn't an issue, half the time I won't notice it anyways. The issue is more like beating a game, giving a glance at the trophies, and seeing that trophy for "Get S Rank on All Missions in Death-to-You mode" that make me obsessively focus on them.

So here's a serious question: is that something you would do if it weren't an achievement or trophy? If it is, then go for it. If not, or if it's a game you're ready to move on from, do so and don't look back. Once you view achievements for what they are (often ridiculously arbitrary tasks which can be extraordinary time sinks that I suspect even the devs just throw in because they have to), then you don't feel quite so bad ignoring them.
I personally see them the same way I see a lot of other game content: completely optional. If there's a game that I absolutely love, I might consider going for an achievement or two for bragging rights, but at the same time, I'm not going to kill myself over them, especially if it's no longer fun. For example, I've still never fought the Ruby Weapon in FFVII. I've not done the long, optional dungeon in Radiata Stories. I never got all the ultimate weapons in Tales of Symphonia. And I enjoyed those games, but I have so little time to waste that I don't want little things like points or a little badge to keep me from enjoying my gaming time. Life's too short!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I've realized I just have way too much stuff to concentrate on anything in particular, but I have no desire to sell it all off.
Example: I bought an n3DS and immediately CFW'd it. That's cool, that's easy to keep up with, and there's a hack for it that Nintendo basically can't patch so I'm good to go basically forever with it. But that reminded me that I really want to set up my Wii properly - it's got basic HBC set up, but no sort of HDD on it which is what I really want. Then that reminded me that my PS3 is hopelessly out of date on CFW. Then I remembered I need to update my Everdrives with SmokeMonster's fabulous packs for them, which I re-discovered when I downloaded (and installed) his rollup pack for the Darksoft CPS2 multi.
Then we get into the fact that I just fixed up a wall in my basement to mount the flatscreen on, and it gets me thinking about actually trying to hook everything up at once - with the Framemeister (that I just learned has a new firmware as well) I think I'll need about 5 switches (assuming I can get an scart switch with at least 5-6 ports on it) and no daisy chaining. Would also necessitate my building some custom shelves, and I have exactly 0 woodworking experience. But before any of that, I need to prime and paint that wal.
Then I remember that my NES collection - which I have actually been working on and mostly keeping my (console) purchases restricted to - badly needs covers printed. Which reminds me that I've still not alphabetized all of my games since unpacking from the move, and the Genesis cases that I bought to replace the UGCs I have some of them in (anything I had loose, I moved to UGCs at first, but now there's a steady supply of new cases that are identical to the original Genesis cases so I want to move them back into those for uniformity) need to be done as well as covers printed, as well as a few other random covers here and there....
Basically, I'm scatterbrained, and too many projects not enough time. Plus when I do get free time (that I'm not just sleeping during), I find myself actually (gasp!) playing video games! It's been WoW mostly, just picked up Bravely Default finally, and in my just-a-few-minutes modes I've been playing one of the cabinets, which are currently loaded up with Super Puzzle Fighter II, Aero Fighters (the first one), and Dirty Pigskin Football (thanks Mike)
It would be so much easier if I really truly chose only one system to focus on. But I don't see myself ever doing the en masse sell-off, so that's not likely to happen.

as someone who hates clutter and feeling overwhelmed by his own belongings, I can tell you this has felt like the best decision I've ever made, hobby-wise.

Nah, I (currently) love my basement. It's full, but not really that cluttered yet. That might change, but right now I just smile and smile every time I walk down there, and it's not even fully set up the way I want it yet (I've only been in the house 3.5 months after all... I need at least a year or two to get it where I want it 95+%)noiseredux wrote:as someone who hates clutter and feeling overwhelmed by his own belongings, I can tell you this has felt like the best decision I've ever made, hobby-wise.
But I can definitely see how it could be freeing for some.

Selling your obscure unwanted consoles would be a great way to fund your future NES and Neo Geo purchases.KalessinDB wrote:Nah, I (currently) love my basement. lol you've got most of em already. Only stuff that's up for grabs these days is Atari and Coleco games (no systems - keeping those and a flash cart) which I'm pretty sure you've already gone through and passed on and an Odyssey^2 which I distinctly remember you having 2 of already because you're Bone.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Selling your obscure unwanted consoles would be a great way to fund your future NES and Neo Geo purchases.KalessinDB wrote:Nah, I (currently) love my basement. The CDi might eventually find a new home, but for right now the red-headed stepchildren of the Zelda universe are way too good of a reason to keep it in my possession
