It's entirely possible you're turned off by the art style. It definitely has a feel of its own separate from your sort of "standard" comic book style. Personally I dig it.

And yes, it is a full on alternate universe. Gwen gets bitten, her friend Peter sees this Spider-Woman going out kicking ass while he gets bullied and finally tries to do something about it, becoming the Lizard. In the ensuing conflict Gwen ends up killing the Lizard, causing him to revert to being Peter. That's her version of Uncle Ben's death.

Meanwhile, Frank Castle is a police officer and Matt Murdock is Wilson Fisk's lawyer. I'd say the stories are serious in that they don't just have random wackiness, but there is still that trademark Spider-Man humor throughout.

wow. That actually sounds pretty interesting. I think my problem was that I connected Spider-Gwen and Gwenpool. And Gwenpool is just silly. I may keep an eye on some Spider-Gwen stuff to check it out. Thanks for the rundown!

Did you read that big Spiderverse event a few years back? I found that quite interested in some regards, especially the Silk spinoff.

I haven't. I kind of feel like there's just too much Spider-stuff for me to keep up with all of it. So I pick and choose accordingly. Like I said, I adore Renew Your Vows. And he's also in the current Avengers team as well. So there's those. But you could probably go broke just trying to keep up with all the Spider-verse stuff coming out on a month to month basis.

I've been mostly reading some of the recentish DC stuff and enjoying it. Really love Azzarello's run on Wonder Woman, John's Aquaman and then an event story that isn't a garbage fire with Forever Evil. Lots of cool stuff. Trinity War was kind of a mess but Darkseid war was some big dumb stuff.

as far as DC goes, I picked up the Batman/Flash crossover mini-series "The Button" mainly because it kind of related to Watchmen. I have one issue left to read but it's been pretty meh.

I read the first um, seven issues of Supergirl and kind of want to bail on it. The "Being Super" mini-series on the other hand has been amazing. There's one issue left and I'm bummed.

I was gifted a subscription to Batgirl, so I read that and like it quite a bit.

The whole Spiderverse crisis thing was collected into a few volumes that are easily obtained through public library networks, thankfully. Also easy to deal with if you subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. I did like how they handled booting Doc Oc out of Spidey's body.

it's more I mean that I don't have time to even read everything I already own haha.

I basically have a short list of stuff that I'm currently reading and consider top-tier that I want to keep up with monthly. Then I have kind of a second-tier that's stuff I like, but I'm not upset if I don't read the newest issue right away. Then I have a third-tier which is basically stuff I bought on a whim, or random one-shots/annuals or some older issues I may have found at yard sales... this third tier is literally in an ever-growing pile next to my couch. (I don't bag/board issues until after I've read them).

Now add to this that I also have trade paper backs and graphic novels of "older" stuff that I'm meaning to read. This is separated into two sections: a 90's reading list that I assembled for myself, and then just a general "here's some stuff that looked cool so I picked it up" pile. And these books I try to read between the weekly "top priority" issues.

(Heck, I even have a whole other pile of doubles and things I know I'll just never really get motivated to read, and that I'd like to trade/get rid of...)

So basically my point is that I never seem to have any shortage of stuff to read in my house right now. I literally don't seem to have enough free time to read all of it as it is. So I have to kind of limit myself. In fact, I have stopped buying digital comics altogether ironically because it's too easy/cheap. Nowadays the only digital comics that get added to my tablet are the free copies that come with current issues.

it's three months away but we just got our tix for RI Comic Con. My wife is super excited this year, as Freddie Prinze Jr. will be there. We're both fans of his, but she more so haha. She's cooked out of his cookbook at least once a week for the past year. She even got me into his podcast. So she's just thrilled.

Last year I got to meet some of the American Pie girls, so this feels appropriate haha.
