The trick is to move halfway across the country from your family. When it takes a 4 hour plane trip to get to you they stop "just popping in".

My in-laws are an hour and a half drive away. I've mentioned this before, but we see them at least once a month. At least. They also are going "Grandma" on us and keep giving us old crap they no longer want. Not antiques, just old crap. Today they are bringing us an old Singer sewing table, with no wheel, and it's been polished. Had it been a rustic Singer with a wheel, I'd be doing cartwheels. But this is them dropping off junk from their garage they think we, for some reason, would want. (I know, I know. They're just cleaning out their garage and are trying to be nice).

My parents live around five hours away, and we see them maybe four times a year. Absence makes the heart grow fonder definitely applies.

Thanks a bunch!

You bet.

Frown: Ran into an old college pal while pumping gas and I greeted him with "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, you walk into mine" and he didn't get it.

Oh well. Not everyone can remember everything.

That insanely awkward moment when you run into someone you used to hang out with in school and can't actually remember their name...

Sad face. I wonder how many people here won't get it.

Very sad face. I doubt more than half a baker's dozen of members here get the reference.

But no harm no foul. I've asked more than one Lydia if she had any tattoos, and zooooooom went the joke over her head(s).

Frown: This will get KitKat's goat: Just got a call from my pop-in-law. "We're running late. We should be in your area at around Five o'clock". This creates quite the stir.

I should restate that. This COULD create quite the stir. I could easily open the door when they arrived, give them hugs and then say, "I have previous obligations for the night. Peace out", but I'm not a pee hole (to some of your surprise).

Ugly Frown: Wife said they want to go to Chili's for dinner. Barf. I want my money back, money back, money back now.

Yeah, at one point in time Chilis was decent, but they have gone downhill and I avoid the place.

I avoid any and every chain "food" place.

I'll go out with buddies from time to time to get a pie or some wings, and I assure you I don't think I'm the second coming of Wolfgang Puck. But I do assure you my kitchen is clean, my ingredients fresh, and my meals frugal.

Going out to eat will usually seems like a waste of time and money to me. It has nothing to do with me being a food snob (or does it?) it has everything to do with me thinking "For twelve bucks I could feed four, with much better food not cooked by someone who is driping sweat into my food". Seriously. I've seen cooks wearing gloves who wipe the sweat off their foreheads with their gloves. What's the point of the gloves when they are covered in sweat?

And *shock* most ribs, I'd say over 90% of all chains, are precooked and then microwaved. "Fall off the bone" does not mean "taste like rubber".

Precooked garbage.

So your hands don't get contaminated by sweat and food, duh.
