That said, having read a bit of their forum, they don't seem particularly nice.
An outsider could easily feel that way about this site if they read certain sections. Heck, imagine someone from that forum popping in here, thinking that "Random Gaming Thoughts" sounds cool.

I wouldn't blame them for not being nice anyway, considering they are game collectors often hated on by 90% of other game collectors. They can literally only talk to each other about their hobby, they can't forum-hop to NA, NG, Shmups, or anything like that, without getting flamed. So, it only makes sense that they would get more closed-in and defensive as this went on more.

The, "They were meant to be played" stuff is garbage. I would bet money that any collector that claims this has games sitting on their shelf that they do not play on any regular basis. Just as I would bet money that a lot of sealed game collectors still have loose games that they play.
Actually I was basing that on their reaction to a guy noting he was a reseller in a topic where he came to them for advice on a potentially resealed game. The next five posts were various people posting emoticons to ridicule him before anyone even bothered attempting to answer his question.

Yeah, but still, you were basing that on one thread, and one could easily come to the same conclusion about us looking at, for example, the last page of this thread. Unless the entire forum hopped on and lampooned the guy, there is a chance you just saw some particular members that aren't high-quality.

Imagine someone seeing a thread here where a new member posts a question, and the next 5 posts are, "viewtopic/fsfdsfds", "OMG, this thread again!?" "Guh, the forum quality has just constantly been degrading", etc.

They could have a guide explaining what to look for in sealed games, and might expect their members to look to this guide, as I'm sure, "Is this a legit seal" is probably one of their most common questions.

Or, they could all be assholes, I don't know as I personally have not been to that forum.

I do think, "Well that's your opinion" is a pretty cheap way of getting out of a discussion when you can no longer back up what you believe. But, that's just my opinion.

Actually no, their criticism was aimed directly at his being a reseller and had nothing to do with his asking a question. Still though, you are correct. Looking at other threads of collections, they seem quite supportive of their fellow hobbyists.

Not going to argue on the main gist as we pretty much all have our opinions and aren't going to change them. However there is a pretty big difference between a shelf full of games that someone can play at any time or intends to play in the future versus a shelf full of games sealed in shrink wrap or acrylic boxes that one does not intend to ever open.

You should come over and bring your sealed games. We can have a sealed game party and stare at our wonderfully wrapped games.

In all seriousness, I buy games all the time new or used with the intention to play but it never seems to happen. I'm in a similar boat since I buy new games for about as as little as they are ever gonna get ($5.00 - 15.00). I just figure ill get around to them at some point which isn't a great habit to get into to.

coins are meant to be spent. Stamps meant for postage. Depending on what kind of cards they could have other uses -- Magic/Pokemon/etc cards are to play a game. But some people just collect them. Some people play with action figures. Some collect them sealed. Though I DON'T personally collect sealed games, I can understand that to some people they are physical items to collect and having them sealed keeps them minty. So yeah. I'm with Apple on this one.

It's cool sometimes just to think about it sometimes. The history of it or how old it is. I have several sealed Turbografx games that I can play in other ways or emulate. For example I have a copy of Alien Crush sealed. This game was released on August 19th, 1989. Think about it, that game is over 23 years old! And never opened, sealed like it was when I was 11 years old. Just neat to me.
