Man, everybody be hatin' on Demon's Crest. Ah well. I love the game, clearly. It's kind of the Mega Man X of that series. Thing is, I prefer the original series of Mega Man to X overall, so I suppose I could see where folks might prefer the original set.
Don't get me wrong, though, I think the entire series is fantastic. I recently played through Gargoyle's Quest II and, for the first time, pretty much made mincemeat of it. I'd always had a much harder time with the game previous runs.

Ugh very old, I was on the original test team for that when SOM2Freak translated it as he was a friend of mine on irc. The amount of hours that went into working on that and going over every aspect of that game was insane. It's partly why I've never finished it since or taken a serious stab at it in over a decade -- burnout.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Think of how old the Final Fantasy V patch is. There were still Super Famicom games in production when that was released.
I wouldn't say there's Demon's Crest haters, I'm not seeing hate, I'm just seeing a preference against the changes it has in style and gamplay over the original duo of titles that inspired it is all. There's enough to do in DC but it suffers for being kind of open ended to a fault leaving you questioning where to go and I also recall it not saving which sucks as it's not short.
By the way, on this whole reproduction/translation trip, would any of you be interested in such things on the GBA? I've got a friend who can make using good solid parts, games save/retain without the use of a cheap battery, fit in a standard Nintendo shell, and have high quality non-cheapo deskjet labels too. I think he's looking to start doing this with 6 games or so that have completed translations.

I've been pretty happy using a PS2 adapter for ages, which feels like an evolved SNES pad anyways... but yeah, these do look amazing. Think I'll have to get one myself.ExedExes wrote:I will be picking one of those up very soon. Amazon's got them at a good price. I really enjoy Demon's Crest more than any of the Ghost 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, et cetera. I think Demon's Crest is my favorite game in the franchise.

Yeah, hatin' is a strong word, I was being a little facetious. It is less than glowing praise from a few folks, though. To me, it almost feels like a sort of proto-Symphony of the Night, which is a great place to be.
Also, yeah, I've never been a huge fan of the main Ghosts & Goblins series, mainly because of the difficulty... says the guy who just finished Battletoads. Maybe I should strike while the iron is hot.

I don't know I think the proto Symphony of the Night was Castlevania II which so many years later love to rip on.

I still think Super Ghouls is still worth checking out, if you haven't. It's the only one I've beaten... not to say it's easy itself or anything, but I also feel like it plays and feels very different than the others. The other games to me feel a bit more arcadey and I don't like them nearly as much personally. Super is top notch though.Sarge wrote:Yeah, hatin' is a strong word, I was being a little facetious. What does the Turbo button do? I remember I had a wireless SNES controller with turbo button, but IIRC it didn't do anything?TSTR wrote:So I figured out how to do SNES without the prices:Seriously, if you're into emulating it at all, this thing is a heck of a pad.

Super Ghouls n Ghosts isn't that hard, might be a good starting point.Sarge wrote:Yeah, hatin' is a strong word, I was being a little facetious. It is less than glowing praise from a few folks, though. To me, it almost feels like a sort of proto-Symphony of the Night, which is a great place to be.

Skip Ultimate Ghouls n Ghosts for PSP, it's crap.
