What about when the physical copies eventually fall to bargain bin prices? Would the digital copies follow? If not, no one will be interested in paying something like 30-40 dollars for digital when they could buy a physical copy for 10-15. How do you dictate an online "value" vs worldwide retail chains like Wal-mart and Gamestop who constantly change their prices? The crowd will go where the lowest prices are.Phades wrote:I still think their model could work. What I think they should do is something like:
1. Physical copy - Status quo.
2. Digital copy - 10% discount, Library sharing, 24-hour console "check-in" to play games, used digital games marketplace that they take a cut of all sales (similar to a Glyde or eBay, but publishers/devs would actually get a cut).
I think this kind of setup would encourage people to go digital which would ultimately make them more money.

Sales. Sometimes digital is cheaper even now. There are some good sales available. Not as good as Steam though. Maybe next generation they'll get there. We know you love your physical copies, but if these companies see digital as the future they will find ways to make it appealing in more ways than the convenience of not needing to swap out disks. Give it a few years and see how things are doing then. That is all we can do.Retrogamer0001 wrote:What about when the physical copies eventually fall to bargain bin prices? How is this any different than what happened with the PC? It wasn't overnight that PC games began to fade from store shelves. Many retailers still carry PC games, it has just faded over time as digital has taken over. I imagine as it takes off we'll see more sales and additional incentives to get users to buy digital. The online marketplace I suggested would also help drive this as the used market would help determine pricing.Retrogamer0001 wrote: What about when the physical copies eventually fall to bargain bin prices? I'm talking about the whole "selling off your digital used game library" idea, specifically how you'll keep the value of your games in line with the used prices of the physical copies at brick-and-mortar retailers. You can't expect your digital copies to retain higher value than the physical copies. If you pay $55 for a digital version, and the physical copy drops to $20, does the digital version follow suit? Who decides this? And how is that retaining value anyway? Wouldn't you rather be able to sell a physical copy for real, actual dollars?Phades wrote:How is this any different than what happened with the PC? Once again, how is this any different than the PC market when it started making the transition to digital only??Retrogamer0001 wrote: I'm talking about the whole "selling off your digital used game library" idea, specifically how you'll keep the value of your games in line with the used prices of the physical copies at brick-and-mortar retailers. As to how you keep the value of your games in line with used prices, it seems pretty obvious to me.... If its a marketplace similar to a Glyde or eBay model, then the sellers would set the prices. If somebody can buy a physical copy for $20, that would likely be a factor in the price I'd select to sell my license for.

Hmmm. Thinking of pre-ordering the Xbox One now.. But probably not. How many confirmed Kinect games are there? I'd really like to see something like Child of Eden for this new Kinect (that probably works 10x better than the original).
What games should I be excited about besides that new Panzer Dragoon-ish game? Titanfall looks pretty good even though I usually don't play FPS

Project Spark ~ It's on Windows 8 as well though. Seems like LBP taken to the next level. Uses Kinect for pointer and voice controls.ZenErik wrote:Hmmm. Thinking of pre-ordering the Xbox One now.. Ryse ~ Might be good, might be trash, nobody seems to know really. It's interesting though. Could end up being a decent God of War style game. Doesn't seem to use Kinect.
Zoo Tycoon ~ Pretty certain it's a launch game. Another one of those could be good, might not, sort of games. The footage I've seen so far looks promising. A cut down version will be on 360 though. It is said to have less than 50% content. Uses Kinect for pointer and voice controls.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Xbox One
Since Ryse is a ONE exclusive, I'd be surprised if it doesn't use Kinect in some fashion. It won't be required, but it will do something.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I'll look into those. I was thinking something like CoE since it's one of my favorites, and I like visually and musically 'cool' games. Artsy stuff, I guess. Right now the only thing the PS4 has going for it is PS+, which I have until at least December 2014. And that is a pretty big plus considering all the free and discounted games I've gotten for PS3 and Vita.

How about Below? It's from the guys who did Sword and Sworcery so it's probably pretty artsy fartsyZenErik wrote:I'll look into those.
