Another reason not to read IGN. Horrible articles and reviews. I swear the gaming industry has surpased the music industry with blandness being the "in" thing. GTA IV is not a bad game, just uncreative and unispired. I want to see these next gen systems do something new and great looking. I can see reality with my eyes, I want some visonary stylization in the graphics and gameplay department. The have been re-hashing the same crap idea's since the PS1. Lets do something creative will all this state-of-the-art technology.Randy_Marsh wrote:IGN gave it a 10. as in perfect. as in the first 10 they've handed out since 2001.
Lets Talk About GTA
There's a reason why I can play Wind Waker this very day and confidently say it's one of the most beautiful games out there.ott0bot wrote:Another reason not to read IGN. I'm playing it right now. I can't see why people trashed it so much. I only know like 3 people who finished it. I think it looks great, it's got solid gameplay, and lots of cool enemies and levels. I especailly like the big statues that hop around and you gotta throw a bomb in their mouth. Very cool. Plus I like sailing and charting islands, it's just fun. Best game I've played since Okami.Mozgus wrote:There's a reason why I can play Wind Waker this very day and confidently say it's one of the most beautiful games out there.ott0bot wrote:Another reason not to read IGN. I enjoyed it up until I got lost. I have no idea where i'm supposed to be going. So I just left it. It's not as easy to figure out where you're going, seeing as when you're at sea, all it is, is endless blue waves for miles. Where am I supposed to go?!

Ah, Wind Waker. I liked it, the art style didn't bother me. I still say Link to the Past was better, but Link to the Past was my favorite, so...yeah. I didn't finish it(played a roommates copy. He moved when I was literally halfway through the final dungeon...oh well, sucks to be me).
And never read IGN. The only time I look at their site is when I want to see launch dates or find out who published a title. They were better as Game Sages, and since becoming IGN they've pulled some really dirty tricks that have helped cement a deep-seeded hatred for them in me.
As for real innovation, for the last few years it's mostly been about graphics. A few innovative storylines have come along, and every now and again we'll get a title that gives us something new, or takes an old idea and redefines it into something worth playing, but considering how many of the most popular titles are sequels nowadays from series that launched over a decade ago...yeah, it's not hard to see where gaming has gone.
That's not to say that things haven't been tried. Compare Resident Evil 4 to the rest of the series, we get some good innovation. Compare Silent Hill 4 to the rest, we get some bad innovation. Even Sammy tried with Guilty Gear: Isuka, though they tried to innovate by bringing back old fighting game mechanics that had been forgotten for a reason... Some series have attempted to do it, and it sometimes works. Often if falls flat on its face. And in the meantime, everybody else watches to see what is popular, then makes games based on what sells. Resident Evil 4? Go play Cold Fear, the cheap knock off.
Face it. The games industry is an industry, made up of businesses that want to make money. They'll even go so far as to pay off reviewers to rate games higher than they deserve. And the unscrupulous reviewers do it willingly, the scrupulous ones do it drudgingly, and the honest ones get fired when they refuse. In the meantime, titles keep coming out for the casual gamers, because there are far more of them than there are hardcore, as far as console goes. On PC, companies want nice graphics, so they make games for the hardcore and force the casual gamers to upgrade.

No, I played it a bit on his game when he was well into it.AwesomeMonstar wrote:You're playing the first missions, of course it's easy and boring. You should also broaden horizons if your current games have lulled you into acceptance of boring gameplay at any point, especially at the beginning... when it's BRAND NEW to you...

you contradict yourself monfrair. If i gave up on a game that early, I could hardly call that broadening my horizons.wyatt wrote:No, I played it a bit on his game when he was well into it.AwesomeMonstar wrote:You're playing the first missions, of course it's easy and boring. I hope by "early" you meant "soon" as the post you quoted was telling you I didn't play the early portion of the game. Also the first post I made that you quoted said it was the first GTA game I played, which would be the definition of broadening horizons... Do you read these posts or just mash the quote button in reflex?AwesomeMonstar wrote:you contradict yourself monfrair. The game looked shitty as I watched it for an hour, sucked as I played it for over two, and my roomate is turning it in as soon as he finishes it. In other news the DS game I am playing grabbed me by the balls from minute one and hasn't let go 4 hours later, and that's, ya know, during your purposely boring beggining.

Early doesn't have to be used as a reference of in game time, however, if you want to be an asshat about it, go right ahead. Secondly, there's a fine line between broadening your horizons and trying something for an hour or so that you're already clearly bitter about, looking for things to bitch about which I'm sure you did.wyatt wrote:I hope by "early" you meant "soon" as the post you quoted was telling you I didn't play the early portion of the game. Now let us move onto your next comparison. A hand held game designed to be fun on the go is faster to pick and play than a console game. Wow. Mind shattering stuff here Sherlock. You tell me a console/pc game with fun tutorial missions and I'll be surprised.
