I beat level 5 of Panzer Dragoon Zwei last night. I was definitely approaching it wrong. I almost exclusively used the lock on shot until level 5 but level 5 was easier when I used it sparingly. The first set of enemies really did a number on me until I just stopped using lock ons and started rapid firing,

Interesting. But I still want to spend more time avoiding killing zombies right?

My biggest concern is lack of ammo for boss fights. Will I be OK on that front?

If you're generally sparing with your big guns, you should be fine. Think of the shotgun as your mid-gun, for dealing with trash quickly or for taking down tougher regular enemies. Boss fights, you'll probably have something bigger on hand.

Another thing to consider would be getting good with the basic knife and understanding how it works to hit zombies at specific points and ranges. Having a good knife game means you can conserve ammo when dealing with single or possibly a couple of zombies, so you can clear corridors quickly and start creating "safe" zones that let you traverse the mansion easily.

Also, not all dead zombies come back as Crimson Heads, and once you drop a Crimson Head, they are dropped for good.

So, I spent another night exploring the mansion in Resident Evil.

I successfully opened all the doors requiring the sword key, cleared out some zombies around the item box rooms and got the armour key too. Since then I've also explored all the armour key rooms, found some more puzzle items (I have 3 death masks, a blue gem, a wind crest and a gold emblem to use somewhere) and a grenade launcher too. I also saved Richard with some serum.

I'm running low on ammo - the game has yet to give me any more shotgun shells since the first 12 I got and I've now run out after using mine on some crimson heads, a few zombie dogs and a zombie STARs member. I do have a grenade launcher with 4 regular rounds, 6 acid rounds and 6 incendiary rounds, but I'm down to about 20 handgun ammo too.

I'm less worried about my ammo situation though and more concerned about health items. I'm down to a lone first aid spray but I feel I should probably be trying to stock up on a few health items for boss fights - sounds like I might be fighting a snake boss soon.

I know the mansion isn't the only area to explore in the game - anyone here in the know and can tell me how far through I might be so far?

It's been a while since I played RE1, and I don't really know much about the differences between the original and the remake, but I don't remember ammo being that much of an issue. I feel like I cleared out most areas of zombie threats, and still usually had ammo to spare. Did that change with the remake?

Also--and again, it's been a while since I played it--I think you're probably only about a quarter of the way through the game.

Agreed with pierrot. Once you actually leave the mansion (you'll be back; they always come back) I'd call that about 1/3.

Your exploration from that point is just a bit less open ended though, so you'll probably be moving through things more quickly.

I haven’t played remake but based on the original I agree with you being a quarter of the way through. It sounds like you picked hard mode so maybe that’s why ammo is so scarce. I’m a wimp so I played on easy.

In the original release, yeah, there was more. In REmake, I believe they cut back a bit on ammo, but there is still enough. I find most of these games have a sort of balance point in terms of skill and progression, where you learn where to get ammo, how to put things down efficiently, and what you don't need to waste ammo on. He's just getting the ropes, but he'll be ok.

AJ, the grenade launcher rounds are perfect for bosses, though I don't recall which rounds work best for which bosses or enemies. You may blow a save and do some experimenting to see what drops a Crimson Head quickly. And you have a lot of game left after the mansion. Shoot, REmake even adds extra, so yeah, maybe coming to the 1/3 mark.

Acid rounds should be saved until you meet Hunters, which happens when you return to the mansion. Also, later on in the game you are going to meet an enemy that is described in a journal before you find this enemy; you'll know the enemy once you've read the journal. This enemy can't be killed, so when you encounter said enemy just run past to not waste ammo.

Killer 7:

In the near future of 2010; Angel Completed.

I have very little idea what the hell is going on. Feels a bit like someone's (I have no idea whose) psychotic fever dream.

Still kind of upsets me that this was made using RenderWare. Really detracts from an otherwise very interesting visual style.
