had a great run going and misjudged a jump in the Ice Caves. :\

Thanks. Actually coasted to them - but was completely unprepared for any of the items/elements. Died on first jump - I actually figured out the aliens would melt the ice, so I let them do that and dropped to the shiny red icon on the platform below. Turns out it was a shiny red trigger on a super blasty bomb and KAPLOW! Fired me across the screen and then down about 8,000' to my death.

So, if I buy a cape - does that employ every time it's needed? Do you keep it until you die - or do you have to take it OR something else? I've seen a jetpak too, but haven't bought one yet.

cape and jetpack are just on you. You don't carry them like other items. You have them til you die, like the gloves or boots. I love the cape. You just hold the jump button in air to slowly descend. I use it more than jetpack honestly.

Oh and I just beat Spelunky again.

Parachute opens when it is needed and is one use. Cape and jetpack are used items that you keep throughout. Also, you can float through spikes with the cape.
