The GBC G&W games are great, but for a more authentic experience, you may want to track down:

They were distributed exclusively through Club Nintendo, but I don't think that they are too expensive on the secondary market.

I had those when I got them off NOA years ago and they bored me to tears pretty quick since there's so little of anything on them. I know the resolution isn't there, but the GB and GBC games really do capture the old games, plus those modern side by side conversions are fun too. Years ago (90s, late) I ran a GB website doing news and reviews and I covered all those G&W gallery titles for the GBC and it was fun to write that stuff up.

I know it's not Game Boy but the Izuna games on DS are solid roguelikes. Hard as balls though.

Izuna 2 isn't too bad; Izuna one is definitely nasty.

Has anyone other than me picked up Etrian Mystery Dungeon?

I'm thinking of tackling (or getting tackled by) EMD after Brandish.

One of my favourite GBA games...oh the hours that have been wasted on it. Without spoiling what they are, in addition to the six games advertised on the box, there are actually a whopping 14 unlockable, bringing the total to 20 games on that cart. A must have for any G&W lover.

Which site did you run?

G&W Gallery 4 is the bomb, fantastic cart, just haven't got around to picking it up again is all. Other than the original G&WG I think they all have an expansion list of games to unlock when you crack enough stars on the high score screen. I had so much fun unlocking all those gem titles hiding in there.

I was happily wrong about the local ma & pa store half price hosed up on home console games, they apparently don't do well with Gameboy. The first one I blew $9 along with just a few bucks in trade and got Revenge of the Gator, G&W Gallery 1, Kirby's Pinball Land, and a mismarked .99 copy of Tetris Attack. The other location was 3 for $10 and ended up with Mole Mania and then GBC releases of Aladdin and Lemmings. I was hunting Super Mario Land mainly, no dice. :(

DS: GB World. I was close friends online with Martin of nesworld.com and ended up working with him originally taking over all the publishing and some development of music for the NES World Jukebox. I was huge on GB then with the N64 floundering and with him set up a companion site GB World which had news, stories, and GB/GBC game reviews and it ran for around 2 years. It wasn't huge, but I had a good steady base of readers and on occasion got a few people who would submit reviews to the site too.

I don't know of any off hand but it's a favorite genre of mine and portable roguelikes are not common...

Would Dragon Warrior Monsters count?

I'm ignorant of the genre but it's a dungeon crawler with a turn-based battle system.

Might scratch your itch.

It also has the randomly generated dungeons, but I wouldn't call it a roguelike. One defining feature of roguelikes is some sort of massive punishment for death; that might be resetting your level, losing all your gear, or even full on perma death.
