I'd prefer they not follow the "Apple model" of releasing faster hardware every year or two with its own set of exclusive software. I'd rather instead we'd get a truly next-gen handheld from them -- perhaps in another year or two, though.dunpeal2064 wrote:But isn't it likely that those games would not work on a 3DS? So, our only options are to either have them launch this and give us some meatier games, or just not launch it at all, and not give us those beefed up games.
I mean, if they didn't launch it, we still wouldn't get Xenoblade, right?
Besides, at least with my phone there's a whole system built in where I can sell the old one on the open market at the end of a 2-year contract and basically use those proceeds to fund the purchase of my new one because of the "discount" given to people who buy a phone with a new contract. I suppose I can go ahead and sell my old 3DSXL as well and I am sure GameStop will have some kind of trade in thing, but Nintendo's wonky account system and method of transferring your games/licenses makes trading in at the time of purchase or before the new one comes out a non-option...which means the price drops and you end up spending more.
That said, does anyone know if GameStop does the transfer/wipe for you at the time of purchase if you do a trade in? I may consider getting one at launch if they do all that in store and have a decent trade-in deal going on...

Also, we already have Xenoblade. So far I have zero incentive to upgrade.
I also don't get all the problems people have with the 3D on the base 3DS. Do you all play while on some sort of narcotic so your head involuntarily sways? When I play my 3DS I'm usually laying down on the couch and have never had a problem having my head in the right spot.

Why wouldn't they? Look how well it works for apple:dsheinem wrote:I'd prefer they not follow the "Apple model" of releasing faster hardware every year or two with its own set of exclusive software. With results like this, what business man wouldn't want to follow the apple model?
Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
Yeah, but long-time gamers aren't conditioned to that kind of cycle in the way that phone users always have been.samsonlonghair wrote: With results like this, what business man wouldn't want to follow the apple model?
Maybe another way of putting it is: if they are switching to this annual/bi-annual approach to incremental improvement of the CPU/GPU they should just be up front with it. At least with Apple, their fall press conferences announcing a new phone occur like clockwork and, as a result, consumers now have a much better idea of how to consider when and why they might want to buy a new phone.
Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
Well as long as they don't announce a new new 3ds next year I'll be good. I don't mind the xl editions but I don't need that big of a screen with how big my 3ds one feels already

They DID announce the 2DS around this time last yeardsheinem wrote:Yeah, but long-time gamers aren't conditioned to that kind of cycle in the way that phone users always have been.samsonlonghair wrote: With results like this, what business man wouldn't want to follow the apple model?

Yeah but it didn't have any specifics to it only except as being the even more budget portable from nintendo(which so far sounds like it works unlike with the wii mini afaik)

That was a downgraded/budget option, so the argument doesn't quite apply.ZeroAX wrote:They DID announce the 2DS around this time last yeardsheinem wrote:Yeah, but long-time gamers aren't conditioned to that kind of cycle in the way that phone users always have been.samsonlonghair wrote: With results like this, what business man wouldn't want to follow the apple model?

Re: Yet another 3DS model announced - the NEW 3DS
Maybe the reason I don't get your frustration is cause I've never been crazy about being current. I was rocking a model 1 GBA until finally getting a DS Lite in 2007 or so. I missed out on the DSi line altogether before getting an original 3DS. The only reason I have a 3DS XL now is cause a buddy of mine sold his to me for cheap. Even if I was obsessed with staying current, I make enough that I could afford a new 3DS if I wanted it badly enough.dsheinem wrote:bingoOpa Opa wrote:This is a mandatory upgrade for those that want to stay current.
The new 3DS's superior memory and CPU remind me of the RAM expansion for the N64. It annoyed me in the year 2000 when I had to shell out more money just to play Zelda: Majora's Mask, but I look back on it as one of the finest N64 games. Maybe this new 3DS will be similar. I will say the videos of Xenoblade 3DS look superior to any visuals I've ever seen my current 3DS accomplish. I mean you guys might be right, but I personally feel more optimistic than that.
