Wait, PS3's can play PS1 games??Valkyrie-Favor wrote:It's certainly powerful enough to emulate the PS1 and PS2, but I think Sony would rather charge us for downloads than just let us play the PS1 and PS2 games. Even if emulation is used, a lot of testing is required for each game. I was actually surprised when I heard the non-BC PS3s would support PS1 games. Not because it was technically hard, but because I thought Sony wanted to sell more classics.
Well, they probably realized that anyone who wants to play PS1 games already has a PS1.

Goddammit we're at the tail end of the Ps3's life and people are still surprised about this.oxymoron wrote: Wait, PS3's can play PS1 games??
Re: The PS4 thread
Yeah. Hard to say on that, but it's been obvious Sony never really emphasized that capability much at all.

So yes, any and all models can play PSX games completely fine.

Well It doesn't really matter considering I have a PS2 and It most likely will look a lot better on there.AppleQueso wrote:Goddammit we're at the tail end of the Ps3's life and people are still surprised about this.oxymoron wrote: Wait, PS3's can play PS1 games??

I never actually knew that either. Damn. Now I'm thinking of moving my PS1 library over to the room my PS3 is in. I haven't played any of them in ages since my PS1 is buried in a closet and I never could find a convenient spot to hook it up anyway.AppleQueso wrote:Goddammit we're at the tail end of the Ps3's life and people are still surprised about this.oxymoron wrote: Wait, PS3's can play PS1 games??

Re: The PS4 thread
PS1 games will still look better on a CRT, or a PC with emulation, but the convenience is nice. I didn't like wearing out the laser on something my PS1 can do, but I could use several PS3 compatible controllers for a multiplayer PS1 game. I've had a lot of fun with Crash Bash that way.
As for where to hook yours up, mine is sitting on the floor. It's fine unless you have young kids!

BTW, I knew the PS1 games worked on all models, but I was surprised they hadn't removed it

If they put PS1 BC then why not PS2?Valkyrie-Favor wrote:PS1 games will still look better on a CRT, or a PC with emulation, but the convenience is nice. Something to do with lasers.
Anyways I'd say PSX games look a lot better via PS3 for me honestly. Smoothing and they look crisp on HDTV. The same cannot be said for some of my PS2 games via component, lol. I'd definitely compare them yourself sometime.

I would have guessed the PS2 would have made the PS1 games look better considering It's using composite versus HDMI. That's odd.Xeogred wrote:Something to do with lasers.

Re: The PS4 thread
Use S-Video or RGB on a good CRT and your PS1 will look great. Some textures improvement on a PS2 with component or RGB. The PS3 smoothing is okay but it doesn't compare to the natural blurring that occurs on a CRT.
I have compared the PS2 and PS3, in fact I use them on the same TV.
