Civilization: Beyond Earth is destined to become a better, more nuanced and less strategically repetitive game than any other Civilization game before it. But it's broken. Balance is so obviously awful and so many parts of it are clear placeholders that it's pretty much an unfinished game. Will it be good? Perhaps with patches.

Want to read why that's the case? Read my review here:

Another year has passed and, like always, I've decided to write about what I did well, what I did not and what I want to improve or chance. This is fairly important for me, so if you read my blog and have some thoughts on the matter, feel free to share them here, I'm ready to listen :)

I'm slowly becoming a Fire Emblem fan, though Blazing Sword left a fair bit to be desired. It's not a bad game by any means but it sacrificed appeal in the name of accessiblity, and came worse for it.

I suffered through writer's block for the last two months so you guys can't imagine how happy I am to finish this article

Most posters here have probably played Yagawa's Battle Garegga but it's not a very well-known game outside of shmup circles. So with this review I tried to present the game in a friendly manner, what is Battle Garegga really about? And why is it important or different? Why is it interesting to play?

My F-Zero review hasn't turned out as well as I wanted, a lot of stuff I wanted to discuss in-depth like the gimmicks or Port Town looking like a carpet of pixel vomit ended up not making it in, but I still hope you enjoy reading it.

I think F-Zero is interesting in that there's a certain kind of gamer that would love it because it's more "retro". I do fall in that camp a bit, and I think many's love of the game in this forum can be traced down to that aspect.

F-Zero is my all time favorite racing game. However, I played and fell in love with it when it was actually released. Playing it now for the first time is probably a rather different experience indeed.

It probably is, but I'm actually surprised at how timeless it is. It's like Super Mario, or A Link to the Past or Punch-Out in that what made it great in 1990 is timeless so it will continue being a good game.

I mean, when you think about it, there are only a handful of 2D racers that are actually played twenty years later and there were A LOT of racers back then.

If you're bored sometime, give Uchuu Race: Astro Go! Go! a try. It's a Super Famicom mode7 racer not entirely unlike F-Zero, but it has its own style and ideas. Definitely a hidden gem.

I review another Thief II fan mission! This time it's Hidden Agenda, which may not be as polished or as innovative as other missions but captures the game's basic so well that it's one of my favourites so far.

Magical Drop V saw mixed reviews on release, with most reviewers talking about it on the big picture. I decided to take the opposite approach and go down to the root issue: Why is this game worse than Magical Drop III? Why is it so poorly regarded and even then, why isn't it worth playing?

Personally, I'm very proud of this review because I think I managed to explain something very technical in a simple manner.
