So I saw it today. I guess I'm in club "joyless human being" because I really didn't care for it.
Maybe I was expecting something different, but it really didn't feel like a movie with a story to tell. I was left with the impression that there was a bunch of interesting imagery (I liked the way the 80s-era characters moved) but felt like it was severely lacking in substance. Maybe it's because I don't really like Sarah Silverman, but I couldn't care about Vanellope who was really the focus of the film a lot more than Ralph was. I was hoping for more variety in the setting but so much of it was just Sugar Rush...
The characters in general didn't really have much personality beyond what was shown in the trailer.
Yeah, it had gaming references in it, but it wasn't really a movie about games in any deep way. "Oh, here a character enters the Konami code into a wall-mounted NES controller in order to access the programming of the game." That really felt shoehorned in to me.
Maybe I'm just too much of a curmudgeon for this kind of movie. But whatevs, it wasn't for me!
I pretty much agree with this review from The Atlantic.

i also saw it (last week). though i like the retro video game references and jokes i thought the story/plot and lesson of the movie was good for kids.
