I have to. You guys keep getting your lines crossed saying "this works," "this doesn't." It's best to make sure everyone's on the same page so we know what everyone is referring to.BurningDoom wrote:Getting a little technical on the verbage, I see. That is what Ds is saying works, because all it requires is a few simple mathematical calucations to calulate longitude and latitude. The technology is sound, though there are methods by which one can block the signal if one so desires.
What you guys are complaining about are GPS navigation devices and software. These are the devices which interpret the signals from satellites and then show the current location on whatever available version of a particular graphical map they happen to be using. It is the map data that is buggy, because that particular information can come from a variety of sources, ranging from satellite imagery to local government zoning maps. A GPS navigation device is only as good as the electronic map's source material.

But it isnt being too technical. GPS is just a tool or system the nav software uses. So you were saying there were errors in the coordinates (there is some potential error in GPS)BurningDoom wrote:Getting a little technical on the verbage, I see. Can't we all agree that if we stopped feeling the need to interact face-to-face we wouldn't need GPS's in the first place? With Amazon and other delivery services there's no need to leave the house anymore.

This just made me look up my address from 8 years ago. Google maps now shows it is a dead end street. At the time it insisted it connected at the end.

Who ever said it was about getting laid?General_Norris wrote: Right now it's not that you think that people magically snap their fingers and get laid but that you actively want to think that's true.
I'm just really against the whole psychologist thing because I've always had issues with the kind of people who can get into your mind and understand all the little things like that. There's some things that are easy to pick up, like reading Hemmingway and figuring out that he wrote about troubled relationships so often because his own relationships had so many problems. That's one thing. Someone claiming Oedipus complex based on some convoluted but probably correct basis from seemingly insignificant things that happened in your childhood disturbs me. I'm also scared that there is actually something wrong with me outside of my control, and I hate the idea. I can't stand when something goes wrong and its outside of my control.
@JMustang
I'm sorry to come off as a troll, I just don't have anywhere to put my feelings other than here. I'm not going to break down to one of my teachers or one of my parents about this stuff, and I don't feel like anybody else wants to hear it, so it gets dumped here. Excuse me if its a problem.

The seemingly insignificant things that happened in your childhood affecting you now isn't really something that's seen these days in modern psychology. What you do see is significant things being brushed off by a person as insignificant affecting them in their later life. You'd be surprised how often people write off wholesale abuse against themForlorn Drifter wrote:I'm just really against the whole psychologist thing because I've always had issues with the kind of people who can get into your mind and understand all the little things like that. as "well, yeah, but who didn't experience that now and again?" (and I'm not saying that happened to you).
I've bolded the real part that's stopping you. This is not unique to you; people in general do not like not being in control. But now you're sounding like you realize that we're all probably right and it's hard for you to really face up to that; you'd rather bury your head in the sand.
Here's the thing about psychology; people are both fantastically complicated and incredibly predictable. The predictability comes from the deeply programmed survival mechanisms that are still part of our animal nature. And these instincts tend to be the things that get us in the most emotional trouble.

Control is a word that frankly, pisses me off nowadays. I was reluctant to open up and talk to others myself until finally, last year I realized half the shit my dad tells me sometimes is because he just wants the best for me. Did not have the most fun relationship with him growing up and it was hard to swallow that, but I finally said to hell with it and told myself for once I'll follow his advice and got with somebody he trusted to talk with. One of the best decisions I've made in my life. I was controlling everything in my life. Controlling my emotions, controlling my relationships, essentially manipulating things and others around me, and had to realize unless I just want to remain in my own trap and with walls around, I'd have to let go. To be vulnerable is to really be alive and free.
Don't know if that helps or fits at all. Why why why, because, but, well... excuses!! Instead of trying to come up with an excuse for anything and everything, ask yourself why not. It's hilarious how awesome the last year or so has been since I've been trying to live by that a bit. Why not ask this girl out. Why not go back to school. Why not try out running. Why not speak up against others and let them feel the weight of my voice.
Whether or not asking others for help does anything or not, you don't know until you try. You might hear things that complete suck and don't resonate with you at all, or might be able to put pieces together to figure something out that needs work. Either outcome, you've learned something and bettered yourself.
