I never understood why Mad Max is highly rated , it was kind of boring and seems like it was shot on low budget ,but maybe for its time it was a new idea. I can be wrong but I think it was first to bring up the idea of post apocalyptic world like Star War brought wars in space? I can be very wrong... but that is the impression I have.
@Ack
Those action movies you are talking about are they good or are bad? I do not like to go on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings because they tend to rate movies on the art and philosophy behind it. I watch movies for pure entertainment....
What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It was shot on a low budget. And it was nowhere near the first work on a world after a nuclear apocalypse, a subgenre of science fiction which really got going in the 1950s in the wake of both the United States and Soviet Union developing atomic weapons. But Mad Max was an interesting new look at a post apocalyptic world from a distinctly Australian point of view, and the second film kept a bare bones plot but pretty much ran the gamut of exploitation cinema while also appealing to fans of Westerns.RCBH928 wrote:I never understood why Mad Max is highly rated , it was kind of boring and seems like it was shot on low budget ,but maybe for its time it was a new idea. Star Wars also wasn't the first to bring wars to space.
Cobra is generally considered bad, but it's also the stereotypical definition of an action film from the 1980s: the good guy is an anti-hero who understands that his enemies do not respect the law and therefore effectively gives it up to beat said enemy by killing them all and getting the girl at the same time. There's rebellion against authority while also honoring that authority and respecting it. In some ways, Cobra is effectively an update to Dirty Harry's brand of police enforcement with a 1980s flair. Those action movies you are talking about are they good or are bad? As for the others, they have problems but are often considered the best works of popular or notable action stars.

No they don't. Is based on a percentage of people who either liked or disliked the movie being judged.RCBH928 wrote: I do not like to go on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings because they tend to rate movies on the art and philosophy behind it.
I have plenty of updates, but for now:
BEST MAN'S HOLIDAY
Average but enjoyable. It follows the typical family dramedy, which is the same no matter what the ethnicity of the cast. Ticks me off when people refer to Tyler Perry movies as "Black dramadeies" as "white dramedies" share the same paint by number characteristics. There's conflict followed by humor followed by resolution featuring a cast of above average looking people who are financially well off. If there is any difference between "white" and "black" dramadies is that the "white" ones are often more crude and the "black" ones often are heavy on religion.
HOLIDAY definitely has lots of religious speak in it, so if you don't care for "Praise Jesus!", this movie isn't for you. I don't mind it one bit and find it a bit endearing that the stereotypical wise religious black woma(e)n are present.
HOLIDAY is full of cliche's, the same ol' same ol' jokes, is quite predictable, but manages not to be terrible. Some genuine moments are present in the movie, and the characters are, by large, likeable.
Not for everyone, but the crowd in the theater loved it.

Mad Max is awesome. Part 3 is the weakest naturally, but even that one is watchable

The Hitcher
A quintessential 80s road thriller.

As Ack stated, it is nowhere near a new idea, but it captures two types of fans that keep it popular- post apocalyptic fans, and car fans. The second movie is straight up carsploitation to the max, and is part of the reason I love it. The first movie definitely has a lot of carsploitation, but has a bit better plot and such that keeps it out of the exploitation range for me.RCBH928 wrote:I never understood why Mad Max is highly rated , it was kind of boring and seems like it was shot on low budget ,but maybe for its time it was a new idea. I dunno I have seen some of the highly rated movies and it was a pain to watch. I forced myself to. A lot of them feel like a project for film class about shooting weird movies or for philosophy majors. Was not fun at all...Luke wrote:No they don't. One film that I did not think was bad but I didn't get why it was so popular was Ghost World. Any one got any idea whats the interpretation on that film? When I was done with it I felt there was a hidden story that was told but I just did not get it...

Gaah.
Apparently, in the Oldboy remake, they shot the famous one shot scene again-except it was three times longer and on a car ramp instead. However, the studio decided to cut it, and certain other parts of the movie in the theatrical version...
I am also excited for the Dallas Buyer's Club. Looks like it could be really good.

Expect to wait for a Director's Cut then. Spike Lee can do a hell of a job, so I would prefer to see his version complete.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Gaah.Apparently, in the Oldboy remake, they shot the famous one shot scene again-except it was three times longer and on a car ramp instead. Oh, no question. I might end up seeing this one in theatres anyway, but I want to see that uncut scene.Ack wrote:Expect to wait for a Director's Cut then.
