After hearing nothing except for good things about it for many years, I finally decided to watch The Iron Giant. Despite my extremely high expectations, the film somehow managed to surpass them. The Iron Giant is one of the best animated films that I have ever seen.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I have something in my eye...
What was the last movie you've seen?

Vin Diesel made that movie... all joking aside, that movie is amazing. I love it!ZeoDefender wrote:After hearing nothing except for good things about it for many years, I finally decided to watch The Iron Giant. IRON GIANT is an achievement in film making, writing, and also makes me a wreck for a few days.

A good movie. I'm feeling the nudge to get into the found footage style for whatever reason and rolled with this one tonight. Was not expecting a "zombie" movie but was pleasantly surprised to get one (quote marks because it's borderline). Didn't blow me away like it seemed to for some, but I definitely enjoyed it. First 40 minutes were just a bit slow for me. I wasn't fond of all the forced bits to remind you that it's "real" either (the cop always yelling at the camera guy).
Overall good stuff though, and damn that reporter woman was hot.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
So I've been sick since Thursday. Since being horizontal has led to less headaches, I've been attacking my movie backlog. In no particular order I've knocked out Ong Bak 2, Marebito, The Shawshank Redemption (had seen before, just not watched the DVD since getting it), Dead or Alive (Miike), Maniac (1934), and The Hidden Fortress. OB2 and Marebito were entertaining, but I don't feel the need to watch them again. SR is of course awesome. DoA was odd and not as strong as other Miike movies I've seen, but it was still entertaining. Maniac was pretty cheesily bad, but discovering sources of samples in music I listen to is always awesome. HF was of course great, though Seven Samurai is still better IMHO. I still have Rashomon on my pile for the future.
I've never met a pun I didn't like. - Stark

I'm guessing everyone knows by now that Ben's been in the suit and that K Smith has seen the pictures of Ben suited up, correct?
Even Dish will be blown away by stuff within stuff with this movie. And this isn't my "MAN OF STEEL RULES...KINDS OF SUCKS" knee jerk reaction. Screw the supporting cast, people want Batman, and Batman they shall get.
The movie could be a flop (not by earnings) but WB is building a bridge at lightning speed and they don't care if it is rushed or not. Cash Cow for sure.

Only God Forgives
To freaking weird highly recommend avoiding it. Little to no dialogue, excessive gore/sexual content, possible incest, and just plain weird stuff like Karaoke scenes after each major murder/torture scene
.
Only reason we watched it was because someone recommended it to my Dad. Probably the same nut who said Freddy Got Fingered was the best comedy ever

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Jesus Camp (2006) - This is a stirring documentary about children who attended the "Kids on Fire" evangelical Christian summer camp. The film provides excellent insight into the mindset and world view of some evangelical Christians and their influence on politics and public policy. Moreover, the film does so without commentary or interviews so that the viewer can see the subjects' true identities. (The subjects of the documentary are from Lee's Summit, Missouri, which is only a few miles from where I grew up, and I can attest that it captured midwestern evangelical Christians almost perfectly.) As a liberal Christian, I do not hold anti-intellectual, public-policy-focused evangelical Christians like the ones portrayed in the documentary in very high regard, and the documentary certainly did nothing to dispel my contempt for the charlatans and paranoiacs behind the movement. By the end of the film, however, I mostly just felt sorry for the poor children being raised in that environment. One of the subjects reminded me very much of my daughter, and it absolutely broke my heart to see such a sweet, good-hearted young girl being raised in such a hateful environment and being "brain washed" into holding some very contemptible opinions. Despite this, however, I highly recommend the documentary, which is available for treaming on Hulu+.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

Saw The Warriors (1979) tonight on IFC. I had no idea they show uncut movies now, and it's a very nice thing to see a network do that these days outside of TCM.
I have an affinity for any kind of late 70s/early 80s crime/gang style movies set in New York. I had posted about earlier in this thread about The Exterminator (1980) and I also saw a little known movie known as Defiance (1980). This was really good. Very interesting to see all the pinball/mechanical games in the subway station too, a relic of a bygone era.
Speaking of games, there is a connection here. Rockstar released a Warriors beat em up for the Xbox/PS2 in 2005 that follows the events of the movie, and I also hear it was pretty good. Good to know.

I just watched Battle Royale and The Hunger Games back to back.
By doing this I learned: Battle Royale > The Hunger Games.
