I mean, they're not bad, but definitely not as fun as the R&C and Sly series. I thought the first R&C was a little rough as well, but I loved it when it came out, after I finally got around to playing it. My brother embraced the series well before I did. Me, it was all about Sly to start, and Sly 2 is my favorite, although the original game also had its charms as a more tightly-focused experience. The heist structure is great fun, and some of the setups were quite ingenious.

You know what's annoying? When I have a really strong want for a particular game but for extremely silly reasons. That game currently is Kuon for the PS2.

Why do I want Kuon? It seems to have a real neat aesthetic (with a lot of darks and bits of red here and there), it takes place in a Japanese shrine/temple thingie and uh... That's it? I seriously can't think of why else I would want it! I don't even know if I like survival horror games... If it was a cheap game this wouldn't matter so much but unfortunately it is not :|

Sorry if this sounds pretty silly to any of you, but I kind of wanted to get it off my chest haha.

Doesn't sound silly to me. Kuon was made by FromSoftware, so it's guaranteed to be at least decent.

RGT: Horizon sounds like it could be awesome.

Horizon – an open-source launcher that aggregates all of your games, regardless of whether they’re on Origin, Steam, Uplay, or wherever, into one application.
Horizon’s wanting to go a bit further than just your games though, and is planning on combining the various storefronts into one interface. That’ll be handy for bargain hunters who may normally take a while perusing through the various digital distributors out there for the best deal.

It's ok. It uses its setting well, and I enjoyed the general weirdness of its story. It also put several of my friends off wicker baskets for a while. But it's got some old school survival horror mechanics. If you can handle the gameplay of the early Resident Evils and Silent Hills, then you shouldn't have any problem.

I'm also a little weirded out by how expensive it has gotten.

Yeah I keep on forgetting FromSoftware developed that. Quite a bit different from their usual stuff (but not as different as Adventures of Cookie and Cream lol)

@Ack Hmm I guess I might have to try some Resident Evils or Silent Hills out first then... I've only played the first Silent Hill (which I think I figured it out well enough?) and none of the older Resident Evils (which I'm assuming you mean pre-Resi4).

I've been wanting to get into some survival horror games anyway since they seem interesting, but I tend to chicken out before I even start lol. It's pretty silly since I do this at haunted houses too, but the ones I manage to go into aren't scary at all! :| So I know I can at least tolerate some scary spooky stuff, is just that I actually have to do it lol

Considering the price, I'd recommend it. Kuon has gotten expensive. It would be pretty terrible for you to pay that much and then discover you hate it.

Keep in mind, Kuon is much more of a supernatural horror based on Japanese folklore. In that respect it has a lot more to do with Fatal Frame, though the combat mechanics are entirely different and much more akin to Silent Hill, and the creatures are more like monsters and not the wallhacking specters of the Fatal Frame franchise. You're sluggish in a fight, like a person who is very inexperienced with a weapon, the same way the early SH characters were designed. Kuon is generally more forgiving since you can meditate to restore health. It also relies upon fixed camera angles and tank controls, so if you can deal with that, you'll be fine.

I've been on a Resident Evil marathon. Outside of a couple of jump scares the games aren't really scary. And the jump scares are mostly in the context of "oh shit, a monster that will attack me" and then you can shoot it for immediate catharsis.

Rachet and Clank is coming soon and will most likely be trying that series for the first time, I like the Mega Man comparison that's an interesting point.
I'm a fan of Sly Cooper too! Fun games and atmosphere. I actually work with a guy that used to work at Sucker Punch, but he won't tell me what they're working on now. Boo!

IMO, the only truly frightening game is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I have not played s lot of horror games, however.
