I have a feeling it's going to be a pretty mixed bag when people actually get their hands on it Friday. Initial impressions will probably be pretty positive but I don't think they will be that way a week or two later after the initial hype wears thin.

Going to swing by a few stores on my way to see Logan Friday morning just to see what the general republics response will be and to see if Nintendo sent enough out to meet demand.

I wonder if this will fuck with gamestop employees due to the whole Circle of Life BS.

What IGN said in conclusion:

IGN wrote:As a handheld, the Switch is a powerful piece of hardware with a gorgeous screen, but it's too large and power hungry to feel like you can really take it anywhere. As a console, it’s underpowered, unreliable, and lacking basic features and conveniences that all of its competitors offer. It’s nicely built and cleverly designed to be used in a variety of ways, but the bottom line is that the Switch doesn’t do any one of the many things it can do without some sort of significant compromise. Our testing will continue for the next few days as we try out the online features and other functions enabled by the day-one patch, but if I had to score it now I’d give it a 6.7.

That's IGN's opinion. Not my own. I can neither condemn nor condone the Switch, because I don't own or plan to buy one currently. It would be nice to see some more Switch hardware review snippets quoted in this thread throughout the next week.

6.7 might be fair as it stands right now. Of course, we all know that Nintendo systems are basically a vehicle for Nintendo's games, so I'm not too worried. At a minimum, this is a much less flawed implementation of the Wii U's concept, and I quite like that system.

I just hope the day one patch adds the ability to store the console sideways when docked.

The most glaring is that there is no way to lay the system on its side while docked.

God, where the hell am I going to fit my Switch, next to my TV, speakers, satellite TV set-top box, Hi-Fi system, Saturn, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii U, PS3 and PS4? If only I could dock it sideways.

Oh no wait, I still have plenty of room for it.

I do think that not being able to plug it in to charge while using the kickstand is a really glaring design flaw. I'm not assigning any sub-par scores or anything, just stating an opinion.

My perspective on that was that I wouldn't be taking the system on the go for multiplayer and have it run for 3 hours straight.

I just feel like the average consumer is going to be a little underwhelmed when they get their hands on it.

Big reasons I'm avoiding the launch aside from being a cheap ass with a massive backlog is I don't trust systems till their proven, and there is plenty of room for this console to have durability, battery, and heat issues out the gate.

One thing I'm interested to see is the durability of the locking mechanism that holds the joycons to the system. I imagine after a fair bit of use those could have issues and I don't think this is a system you want taking a 3-4 foot fall. I can understand that pulling the controls off upwards looks/works better when it's docked or in stand mode but if for whatever reason it doesn't lock into place properly or fails on you then the system is just going to come right out of your hands. Pulling the controls off downward and maybe docking the system upside down would have been a better move when considering long term wear and tear and potential safety issues.

There also isn't a cover for the screen so these are going to be scratch city when they eventually hit the used market if the previous user didn't grab a case to carry it in while using it as a portable :P.

The Switch actually sounds about perfect for where I am in my life right now; so, I might pick one up at some point. I am not in a hurry though; so, I will probably wait for at least one hardware revision and a price drop.
