I've always wondered if that movie was as awesome as I want it to be.Luke wrote:THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING

If that isn't enough to get you to watch this splendid film, I don't know what will.

I can't see many people not loving the film. It might not have done anything "new", but it is damned near perfect at what it sets out to do. My favorite thing about the movie, besides the script, is that it is a serious movie that doesn't always take itself seriously. Not that it would be like a fart joke in the Lord of the Rings, but the film has a sense of humor that is hard to put my thumb on. It's one of those "Just go see it" movies.
And although it's not a popcorn flick, it certainly is refreshing, even it the film is about forty years old.
Fun fact: Eminem is 41.

I'll have to check out The Man Who Would Be King.

Saw The Family the other day. Was an "okay not great" kind of experience. The movie felt like it was having a mood swing.
Scenes got way to intense and it really zapped the comedic side of the film. One moment they would be joking the next someone would be bleeding on the floor with 10+ broken bones. If they had censored out or toned down the violence or kept the characters in at least a semi happy(campy) mood it would have passed as a decent comedy in my book.
However things got way to dark as the body count rose, the violence is excessive and feels serious. and the family members all seem to be extremely depressed by the end of the film
. The film did have its moments though and a number of scenes were pretty funny.
Overall I would say it is worth a $1 rental maybe if you like Robert De Niro his performance was pretty good.
To give you an idea of what I mean by excessive violence check out the spoiler.

Saw Riddick two weeks ago. It was pretty silly but I was pleasantly surprised since I wasn't really expecting much. I enjoyed Pitch Black but didn't really care for Chronicles of Riddick and have never been a huge fan of the character.
Definitely not a great movie but an alright brain-shut-off movie.

I saw Akira last night. I had heard it's one of the best anime movies of all time but wow, that was better than any of the others I've seen. The animation was both smooth and detailed, there was plenty of action, and most of the annoying cliches anime holds to were absent.

Besides Akira there, how many non-shounen anime have you seen that's like... pre-1995?BoringSupreez wrote:I saw Akira last night. THE WATCHMEN
Gets worse with every viewing. So why would I keep watching it? I guess you could say it is an exercise in viewing film.
It's not a horrible movie by any means, but so much of this long winded movie falls flat. When you think the movie is going to step up the tempo, it doesn't. When you think there's going to be a climax, it doesn't deliver. It's just kind of there the entire two+ hours.

I felt the same way after recently watching the film again. I have been doing this a lot lately, re-watching older films which I enjoyed. Some films, like the Matrix trilogy, actually got better with age (I know...that sounds insane...but I feel that it is true) and others, like The Watchmen really start to falter and you can start to pick apart the little things that at first seemed really cool, but end up just being novelty and dull. The movie still looks pretty though!Luke wrote:THE WATCHMEN
