Done.

So I got me a Corsair Scimitar a while ago because I was getting sick of the wireless mouse, and decided why not try the crazy million extra buttons? I MMO a bit, can't hurt. Hell, MMO is about all I use my computer for these days. It's pretty awesome.

A few days ago I got sick of my old Model M getting grungy almost immediately (I wash my damn hands, where is it coming from?!?) after cleaning it, so I said screw it and got a Corsair K65 to match it. I like their products, and the metal base is nice because it's almost as strong as the old Model M's. Almost.

The problem with me is, I have my computer dual-booting (even though I almost never actually use Linux), and the keyboard doesn't seem to get recognized until Windows starts up -- meaning I have no control on GRUB and can't choose Linux if I want to. Not a huge deal, but if I ever need to get into my bios I'd love to be able to. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the reverse problem at one point, where my K70 would disappear when Windows booted until I unplugged it and plugged it back in.

One thing I've seen on some systems, including mine, is labeling a couple USB 2.0 ports for Keyboard and Mouse use. In turn, the BIOS has a boot option to only initialize those ports on boot in order to speed up the process. Might be worth checking to see if your motherboard has a similar toggle.

I'd also just look and see if you have a BIOS update available. Between that (which I know fixed another odd issue or two), and setting it to initialize all USB ports, my keyboard issue went away.

I have a K70 and love it.

I never had a problem with mine until I cloned to a new HDD the other day. When I do a cold boot, the keyboard wont work until I log in to my desktop (I have to use the mouse with the on screen keyboard to type in my password). I haven't checked yet to see if I can get into the BIOS, or looked into it at all yet. My mobo (X58) has a PS/2 keyboard port. So I figure, worse case I'll just use a USB to PS/2 adapter.

Check your BIOS to see if there's any options for USB keyboards.

Fair points. I know my bios works with usb mouse, so I guess I just assumed it would work with a USB keyboard, which might not be true. I also googled up a few other people claiming it works with USB 2.0 ports but not 3.0 on bios, which is possible to do.... if a bit annoying (it takes 2 2.0 ports but only one 3.0, but whatever I've got plenty of ports)

Will investigate a bit over the weekend when I have time off.

Some BIOS software still includes a "legacy emulation" option. Most have outgrown it, but if you have that, that might help.

I picked up a Hydro AIO H70 (which is pretty old now, but still compatible with brackets on skylake). I had massive issues with my last AIO cooler (AKA, Antec suck), but I am pairing it with some Corsair SP120 fans in a push/pull config on the rad, so hopefully I see some temps drop.

No interest in building your own? I guess that does look pretty solid. $1,000 should definitely get you some power in this day.

It's not that I have no interest, I've built many pcs. I have no cash and have to use credit, best buy credit.
