So, I guess i'm really confused.
Why is it a chain to kill all the reds, 1 blue, and then all yellows? I mean, I can't argue with the score...but why is that a chain? Is it consistent? Meaning do I do that throughout or is it just that spot?
I killed the first boss quick as i've been doing, but only get 70% destruction rate. What I do is go right up on his left shoulder and use the "C" blue side shot on him, dead in about 7 seconds, but never had 100%. Do I need to use the Radiant Sword to achieve 100% destruction rate?
After the first boss, I did continue to chain the red ships, and then accidentally the yellows, which I think broke the chain? Or did I break the chain by killing those "non-colored" lazers in the middle of the screen at the start of stage 2...ie, do non colored stationary weapons like that break chains? Or can I kill those all day?
I didn't get nearly as far as normal, but my score went up 4x. At least I feel like I can compete now. No merry's yet. Are they only uncovered by homing? I never home, homey.

maybe part of my issue with RS is that I don't like shmups with enemies you aren't supposed to shoot.

I mean I like the game. I think it looks great and the soundtrack is excellent. But as a play-for-score game... it's really tough to grasp what the fuck. The chaining thing Mike mentioned of like red, one blue, then yellows seems so arbitrary to me.
I'll probably mostly just play it for survival and whatever score I manage to eek out in the process will be ok with me. It just feels like a better survival shmup than score shmup.

I think it's def a game where you have to bury yourself into it, so you know what to kill, when to kill, and what to kill it with. I imagine the first stage can be memorized pretty easy, but beyond that, the survival AND scoring would take a lot of practice.
I hate to say, this is prob the first game I liked less after playing it for hi-score. I fully anticipated likeing this even more (and I like it a lot), but i'm almost a bit soured right now, seems like Brad said, pretty arbitrary...unless there is a clearer explanation of the chain and unless it is consistent, like maybe the red doesn't matter per say, maybe the chain is 6 / 1 / 6 and it's a consistent chain, then I can get on board and work with it, but right now it seems very scattered.

Anywhere in the game where reds, blues, and yellows come in sequential order is this chaining valid. Just remember when and where this happens.mjmjr25 wrote:Why is it a chain to kill all the reds, 1 blue, and then all yellows? I mean, I can't argue with the score...but why is that a chain? WIth the first boss I hit it with the super radiant sword right off the bat, hovering over the center rear. After that it will release a bunch of pink bullets with I absorb and hit it again with a super radiant sword, making sure I destroy his other parts. Just hover over the parts you want to destroy while invincible. Do this, and the boss is dead in a matter of seconds with a 100% destruction rate. It just takes a little practice.
THere are no non-colored stationary weapons. ALL enemies are assigned a color. Some more vague than others. And yes, you need the homing rectiles to locate doggies....dawg.

This is pretty much the game in a nutshell. All you have to do is memorize.
One thing I forgot to mention is grazing enemies is a great way to milk a boss for as many points as possible. Be close enough to bosses (and walls) so you can see the sparks fly off your ship. Just mind your hitbox.

4th of July score. I only got 44% on the 2A boss. That is horrible. I panicked with the radiant sword and it killed him.

It doesn't mean anyone else is welcome to challenge them, and it doesn't mean I'm giving up either. I'm intrigued by the real memorization factor this game requires you to possess. Heck, even Dimahoo can't prepare you for this. Many other games in other genres I enjoy are really memorization based, but shmups always seemed to lack it until now. It gives me a new perspective.Tyranix95 wrote:I heard that.ExedExes wrote:
