Just beat Cadash for Sega Genesis. It's in the same vein as Zelda II and Battle of Olympus but obviously has better graphics because it's on Sega Genesis. But it's not nearly as long or as difficult as those games. Still, I had fun for the short time it lasted. Pretty disappointing ending, though, even for back then.

Supposedly it was an arcade game, first. I can't imagine the game making much money since it was so easy and short.

Super Punch-Out marks my 2nd punch-out game beaten this year, I'm on a roll! Most people say it's easier than the original, but I found it about equal, if not harder. The main reason being that the original is more about reactions - most fights can be won if you just have good reaction times. Dodging right and alternating left and right high punches got me through fine - in fact I beat Mr.Sandman and Super Macho Man on my first go, and even Mr.Dream was taken down with only a couple hours of play (seems a lot when I say it like that, but it didnt at the time :p). On the other hand, SPO!! requires much more pattern recognition and has higher learning curves for the boxers - all their attacks needs to be dodged in very different ways and at different timings. So many times I took a one hit KO punch to the face because I dodged right instead of left (damn muscle memory). Blocking and counterpunching are also much more important this time too.

Overall, I think I preferred SPO!!. The new special punch system is better, the more varied attacks from other boxers adds to the crazy tone of the game and the challenge is set just right. Brilliant game.

Secret of Mana is my 8th game of my 10 Snickerd00dle challenge games. I posted more thoughts about it there. Overall it's a solid and enjoyable game, with some flaws which, for me, mean that it's not quite a must play title.

what's a perfect game? no deaths?

i still haven't beaten the original. i should give it a whirl.

No deaths would be a perfect game.

I beat Streets of Rage the other day with only one life lost, and said life could have been saved if I had been a pixel closer to an apple.

I played it on the Sega CD...superior sound for sure.

I played Streets of Rage and quit after dying about 15 times, does that count for anything? :P

Street Fighter EX3 (PS2):

It plays and looks like a pretty mediocre fighter that was given a few dashes of Street
Fighter, just to make a couple of sales. Now, we know that isn't the case, but it sure
feels like it. The game comes across as being a little easy, as I've never been anything
special at Capcom fighters (or any fighter, really), with the only difficulty spike coming with the appearance of Final Bison.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii):

I've never been a fan of this series, it's always felt a bit too button-bashingly chaotic, but was just looking through the disc at the games demos in the vault, decided to give
it a whirl while it was powered on. It's fun, really fun. A bit all over the place, but compensates with a truck load of fan service and pretty awesome specials. I squeed like a little bitch when Ness, Lucas and New Pork City showed up.

Have you ever seen high level play in melee, and to a lesser extent, brawl and 64? Not button mashy at all. Anything under high level play is button mashy as all hell though

I guess it must be like the older Soul Caliburs, where it's very masher-friendly, until you come across someone who knows what they're doing, and then there's no such thing as lucky.

Metroid on the NES. Finally. Stupid password system.
Am I the only one who thinks that Samus in the white armor on the NES bears an uncanny resemblance to Top Gear's Stig?
Now on to Metroid 2 on the GB...
Mostly harmless

2010 Games Beaten

Two excellent beat em ups that never received a home port. If they did, the difficulty would have to be toned down as they are nigh impossible to get through with just one player without dropping at least a few quarters.

I stand by my contention that AvP is the best beat em up made by Capcom, which puts it pretty high in the running as the best ever. It is the only game from last year that I've re-beaten this year. I've seen a 1cc of 2 player AvP that I can hardly believe, but would love to see a 1 player 1cc if it miraculously exists. This is the only game so far this year that appeared on my list last year, too.

Metamorphic Force is, according to Wikipedia, Konami's last beat-em-up game. That's a shame, as it is really a lot of fun and, as I stated in another thread, reminds me a bit of some mythical Thundercats: The Arcade Game. I did find a 1cc of this one on YouTube, and it impresses. Worth a look for even the passing fan of the genre.

The First 50 Games of the Year

The Stanley Parable - PC

Games Completed: 51

Thoughts on Games:

The Stanley Parable is a Source mod that only last's around 10 minutes, there are no guns, you simply walk around. The interesting aspect of this mod is that it sets a really good atmosphere, there are never any signs of what you are meant to do, or where you are meant to go other than the narration, if you come to a fork in the road the narrator will announce what it is that Stanley did. It is a fine example of a great way to tell a story.

Its very short and free so there is no reason not to give it a try, I rather enjoyed it myself.
