Had its moments but ultimately a pitiful sequel and a so-so film in general.

THE WHOLE NINE YARDS

Much like GALAXY QUEST, THE WHOLE NINE YARDS is not a good movie. It's more of a sitcom you've seen a dozen times that lasts ninety minutes. It's full of cliche's, bad jokes, terrible slapstick, canyon sized plot holes, and cookie cutter performances. They both lack any actual depth and the character development is overwhelmingly predictable.

That doesn't mean I don't cherish both of those movies.

Both Quest and Yards share one redeeming quality (no not an excess amount of cleavage), charm. They're obviously not meant to be taken seriously and consistently provide an eye roll followed by a giggle. It's movies like these that make Saturday hangovers not so bad. Some movies aren't full of wit, and don't need to be. NINE YARDS is one of those films where all it asks of you is to like the characters, and it succeeds at its goal. You don't even have to relate to the characters, you just have to like them.

Plus it doesn't hurt that Amanda Peet is "all kinds of fine".

I just checked Rotten Tomatoes to see how YARDS sat with critics. Turns out, not so well, which didn't surprise me. I was a bit surprised Ebert liked it and was also a bit surprised that many critics also thought "long sitcom".

But if you are a fan of Willis, and can tolerate Perry, give the movie a go.

I completely agree though about the cliches of both films. With Galaxy, a film I thoroughly enjoy and ranks up there in the catagories of other quality films like Major League, there is just a cheeseball level of self awareness that gives it a pass. There are clear set ups and payoffs with the jokes, that, although are obvious and cliched, are still done entertainingly.

Also....in Galaxy Quest... you can see Tim Allen's penis... no joke.

Watched 'Hanna' with my girlfriend last night, on her recommendation. Was blown away by how good it was.



Loved the cinematography, writing, and most of all, the soundtrack. For anyone who likes intense thrillers/action movies, this is a must watch. Also, very surprised that it was rated PG-13 now that I've checked it out on IMDB. Seemed like it deserved an R rating.

you have to remember that movies like Taken are PG-13 as well. If you ever want to even try to wrap your head around the ratings system, watch, "This Film Has Not Been Rated"

Wow, Disney sure like their Princess line merchandise sales. Cause she spent like 2 minutes of the film in that dress, and she's in it in every single promotional image.

It's average at best, with the most interesting parts animation wise being the songs, where they showed off some good stuff. The cast is boring with the exception of that firefly and potentially Tiana. It could use more jokes too.

Other than that the film suffers from an identity crisis. It's hald classical Disney fairy tale, half modern animated film (but thank the universe, WITHOUT pop culture references).

It's a shame Disney gave up on traditional animation after this, but honestly if they made a better film it might have done better in the box office. At least they got their shit together with Tangled

If that isn't enough to get you to watch this splendid film, I don't know what will.
