Expect to file a lot of paperwork, though you might get the option to go on a ridealong or be trained to direct traffic, depending on the needs of the department.oxymoron wrote:Has anyone here volunteered at a police department? I have to get my hours in to graduate and this is one of my options.

It's awesome. They give you and gun and a basic command to "clean up the streets". You take it from there.oxymoron wrote:Has anyone here volunteered at a police department? I have to get my hours in to graduate. This is one of my options and was wondering what exactly you do.

Have you ever played the video game NARC?
That's exactly what it's like.
That's exactly what it's like.

It's not as bad as you think. Paperwork can get tedious, but you'll learn to appreciate police work and understand what all really goes into it. As for the animal shelter, expect to spend a lot of time cleaning up shit. I've had several friends work in them, and they can be grueling, physically and emotionally.oxymoron wrote:Well I guess it'll be the animal shelter then.Ack wrote:Expect to file a lot of paperwork, though you might get the option to go on a ridealong or be trained to direct traffic, depending on the needs of the department.oxymoron wrote:Has anyone here volunteered at a police department? Animal medicine is one of a few career paths I'm contemplating pursuing so I guess working at the shelter could give benefits beyond just completing my hours. I just I don't have to be around when they put them down. I can't imagine what it's like for kids in Japan to volunteer at a shelter.Ack wrote: It's not as bad as you think. As for the police, I might test the waters and do 5 hours (the minimum) but pencil pushing isn't really my strong front.

EDIT: You'll be the bare-armed guy in blue with the motorcycle helmet and machine guns in each hand.

^ Damn it. I was hoping for one of those Bugatti's like in NFS.
Do you know what kind of gun the give? I don't think a Glock will cut it.

Most police departments, unfortunately, do not have the budget for tricked-out, custom painted Bugattis...oxymoron wrote:^ Damn it. I was hoping for one of those Bugatti's like in NFS.
