What was the last movie you've seen?

I didn't like it. For me this is the Dane Cook of Star Trek movies. You sit there with a smile on your face until you realize there's just nothing to smile about. Tricked by a movie strung together with cheesy one-liners. Star Trek for the masses.

Then when Spock went "KHAAAAN !!!" I was like "What the fuck is this shit!?"...

Meh, at least some people liked it. Good for them I guess.

I'm not a Trekkie or Trekker or Trektor, or what ever the crazy* fan base is called these days, but here's a quote I found to be interesting:

"INTO DARKNESS is a bit dizzying. It's not a STAR TREK movie, but for a STAR TREK movie, it's grand."

His main point was that although the movie had crappy writing and wasn't spectacular, the delivery, well delivered. This cast is the best Star Trek cast ever. I agree with that 100%. Although some characters are a bit "empty", that's excusable.

The entire "KHAAAAAAAAN!" thing is something silly to argue about. This isn't STAR WARS "NOOOOOOOOO!".

We're talking apples to apples. which I like. Spock shouting KAAAAAAHN can be compared to Spock swimming with whales. And as much as I love Spock riding on a bus, INTO DARKNESS 1-upped all previous ST films.

I know the mythology means a ton to lots of people, but when you skim the milk all that matters is that the movie itself gets applause from non fanboys. To me INTO is convoluted and not perfect by any stretch, but compared to other Star Trek movies I'm surprised that more Trekkers don't love it.

*Yes. Crazy. People learn to speak Klingon, how to pilot ships, dress up at movie premieres, and have weekly "meet ups' at the Waffle House to talk about the show in depth or play Star Trek role playing games.

This is as good a time as any to remind everybody that Star Trek fans invented the slashfic.

The Greeks or Romans probably invented the theory, but not the term. But (ho ho) "I bet they were gay" wasn't anything Trekker's created.

I don't get how Trekkers can be pissed about Abrams Trek but defend Voyager. Treksense makes no-sense.

Side-note:
I also think it's somewhat obnoxious (but funny) when Trekkers hold the original series on a pedestal and bash TNG ... when TNG is closer to the original idea, and TOS was modified to please execs.

I wouldn't define myself as a Trekkie, but I still didn't like it. It was just too superficial for my taste. Can't keep me interested with eye candy alone...

I did like the first one though. It was a nice reintroduction of the original characters, and funny. Second is more of the same, but even more superficial, and the one-liners just didn't do it for me anymore...

That's how I felt about the first Abrams movie, all flash and no substance. So I went into the 2nd one not expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised. That could have been the difference maker between us, right there.

I'll admit it wasn't anything that really explored our humanity nor did it have to do with exploration or discovery. But not all of Star Trek is specifically that. There are plenty of action-packed episodes/movies through-out Star Trek's history.
