SNESdrunk reviews

Ziggy587 wrote:Looks like you're only focusing on "total conversion" ROM hacks. Any interest in covering hacks that aren't total conversions? There's many other types of hacks. There's bug fixing (AKA unofficial patches), add-on mods (adding features to the game without changing the core game), visual improvements, decensoring, etc. Examples given aren't all SNES games, it's just that I'm at work right now so I'm coming up with examples off the top of my head.
Yup, there's a gazillion of these too. Lots of re-translations for stuff like BoF 2 and FF4, lots of re-balancing hacks for stuff like 7th Saga, etc. Those will probably get their own video entirely.
Ziggy587 wrote:One thing I think you should bring up is the possibility for hacks to create problems when the game is being played on real hardware. With flash carts as available as they are today, many of us are looking to use these patches on real hardware. For this reason, as well as more accurate emulation being available, this is becoming less of a problem. Still, I've come across a few more recent hacks that were unplayable on a flash cart. This is usually more of a concern with total conversions versus minor hacks, but it's always a concern.
I honestly haven't run into too much trouble yet on my SD2SNES, the only one that gave me any major problems was LttP Goddess of Wisdom, but everything else has worked fine for the most part. I'll make sure to mention it though.

OK that really looks awesome, I gotta try that one.
Thanks as always Ziggy

Hey, something I noticed in the Super FX vid: the framerates seem a bit high compared to the actual system. Is that video from emulation? Because it actually makes Stunt Race FX resemble something playable, as opposed to the slide show on the actual system.
Or maybe it's all great and I'm just not remembering correctly. It was a great video, regardless. I just think it might impact your opinion on a few of these games.

Thanks, yeah that had to be all emulation, with Star Fox being the only exception

HELL YEAH THE 7TH SAGA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: SNESdrunk reviews
By all accounts, Olvan is the one to use over Kamil. Both are pretty balanced, but everything Kamil can do, Olvan does better. Wilme has so low a magic stat that he tends to get owned by spells, Lux is a little better. And he's cheap to keep upgraded. Valsu is just ridiculous. I think if I start this up again, it'll be Lux and Esuna for me.

I disagree on the Kamil/Olvan split. Kamil loses out on defense and Max HP gain potential but gains in magic, having access to a few offensive spells that Olvan does not get and getting better stats there. Now depending on how you intend to build your party, Olvan's limited offensive options beyond attacking and a couple of spells may cause the player to rethink taking him, though when paired with someone who has a capable magical offense, he is perfectly fine. Kamil meanwhile doesn't necessarily need a partner with offensive magic, though he still pairs well with them. Olvan also gets key spells such as Revive 1 slower than Kamil(level 42 versus level 30), limiting his versatility.
