N64 Perfect Dark パーフェクトダーク - $5.00 BookOff
This is the Japanese 8.9 revision, I also have the U.S. version is 8.7 version. I bought this for the novelty, the main character Joanna Dark has a more asian look in the Japanese release. Meh, most of the game is in FPS mode, still nice to get at the price. Easily played in my N64 by swapping the back of the cart. I like my notches in the N64 console intact, helps to align the game cart. Anyone notice that Japanese game carts are called cassettes? NTSCJ Perfect Dark has English Dialog and Japanese text in the game menu. As far as game play itself, it seems identical. Maybe with the newer Japanese revision, there might be hidden stuff to unlock? :?
http://www.unseen64.net/unseen-changes/ ... -vs-Japan/

When Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64 was released in Japan, they changed Joanna’s face, to match a more oriental one.

I also tried out Perfect Dark with two controllers. Interesting, but too cumbersome, the second stick emulates a mouse action as on other FPSs. I prefer just using the C Buttons for the look mode for Perfect Dark. If both sticks were on one controller such as a Duel Shock, then it might be workable.

PS1 Zero Pilot - $5.00 BookOff Image
Discovered another game among a very limited amount of Playstation games that can be flown with the PS1 Flightstick. This was not even listed in Wiki PlayStation Analog Joystick entry, I'll have to add the game to it. :D

PS2 Zero Shikikan Josentoki - $5.00 BookOff
HDAdvance Compatible somewhat. The training mode runs in the hard drive, but missions do not. Ah well it runs fine with a boot disc and Flip Top. A sequel of sorts to the PS1 Zero flight sim above with crisper graphics. Instead of the PS1 Flightstick, now a Hori Flightstick can be used, I may get lucky to spot it one day. This takes place in a fictitious 1943 era, where Japan did not lose the war. Interesting set of planes that might have been used, I like the push prop plane. 8)

PS2 Starsky & Hutch - $5.00 BookOff
HDAdvance Compatible. Another game I bought because of the unusual controller configuration. Drive and shoot the bad guys at the same time, a second player can ride as "shotgun". A take on Grand Theft Auto in racing around the city.

Okay now the best part of the game, try this as two or even one player:
Drive with Driving Controller/Pedals and shoot with a Lightgun Guncon!

Image Image Image

Okay so the music is cheesy and the lightgun does not work on my HD CRT. The game is still fun to play and I have a workaround. Every Halloween I set up a regular CRT outside with Dreamcast House of the Dead while passing candy out. Imagine House Of The Dead shooting but no longer a scripted run, but driving in any direction! Looks like this game will make for part of the annual event as well.

Nyco Kama Wired Wii Nunchuck - $8.99 Frys
YES! A smooth analog stick, no more ratchet affect of the Octagon that is in the original Nunchuck, Gamecube and N64. This worked so well, I'm tempted to ream out my 1st party Wii Nunchucks. The Kama is wired to save on batteries and has bigger triggers. Anyone who has been disappointed by Nights Journey Into Dreams, now has an easy fix! Very smooth 360 degrees control while flying nights. 8)

Gamecube Mario Party 8 (NTSCJ) - $5.00 BookOff
The Japanese version, easily booted with Action Replay Freeloader. I love how the Japanese Gamecube games are more compact in a case similar to the Gameboy Player case. The instruction book is about the same size as N64 booklets.

PC Gameport Y Adapter Radioshack 26-380 - $6.98 Amazon
Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DRWLNS

The shipped price, not bad at all! An old out of stock Radio Shack part, just look at the fade on the packaging. The cable has been in the package over a decade just waiting for me to use it. Perfect brand new condition, works just fine. A dual controller Y adapter for the old PC Game Port. This allows all four axis and four buttons of two controllers to work in one Game Port. 8)

Rockfire USB Game Port adapter - $20.45 Amazon
Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HAX7OU/

Included the shipped price. Used with the above adapter I can hook up dual joysticks or a Flightstick on a newer PC. I have vintage CH Mach 1 Joysticks and a solid CH Flightstick that now work again! Mame played in a new way and Falcon 4.0 with a proper stick again.

This route works beautiful for some PC controllers! I posted a Game Port to USB guide, so many great vintage PC Game Port controllers to rediscover and now working thru a USB port. :D

Air Ranger (NTSCJ) - $19.00
HDAdvance Compatible. Saved the best PS2 sim for last. I love helicopter simulators, especially when the Collective, Cyclic, Rudder and Throttle are all being independently controlled by the player pilot. The best and hardest to fly is still PS1 RC Stunt Copter for its very unforgiving realistic controls. Air Ranger is more forgiving, it has enough sim to keep you on your toes but not overly impossible like RC Stunt. You still have to watch for winds and objects as you hover over a target dropping the rescue hook. A very very good simulator with all the individual Flight controls to perform maneuvers.

Fall 2000 Tokyo Game Show

TGS exists basically as a live forum for advertising the upcoming games to end consumers. Even on "business day" there are plenty of kids running around the show floor. Lots of game companies will have a booth just for the purpose of seling products related to their characters or games, stuff like posters, dolls, CDs, etc. ASK had a nifty little hellicopter pilot sim called "Air Ranger"

Image
I wonder if that helicopter was an add on impulse sale? :D

Club Nintendo Mario Statue - From contagion13
With contagion's, okay to post, A couple of nice purchases. Club Nintendo has gone downhill in the annual giveaways, this statue from 2009 makes up for it.

Doko Demo Issyo with Pocket Station - From contagion13
Very nice to get this, the Pocket Station came out prior to the similar functioning Dreamcast VMU. The base flips up to pop into a PS1 as a memory card transfer pack. Play a mini game on the go. I have a couple of other games that I have been curious to try on the Pocket Station, notably NTSCJ Intelligent Cube and NTSCJ Ape Escape. I have seen that Doko Cat on a couple of Japanese PS2 games, tempted to buy them. However, since PS2 Memory Cards are different, I doubt the Pocket Station will work with any PS2 games.

A special thanks to contagion. The Pocket Station is complete, includes a spare strap, key ring chain and even the battery protect tab.

Walmart had original DS headsets (Nintendo brand) on clearance for $2.50 each, so I picked up two. Then I found Black Ops for PC on clearance at Best Buy for $20, and The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection for the same price.

CRTGamer, any chance you could do that trick where photos/images are concealed until you hit the "show" button? You do it with the lists, which is great, but the photos might be nice as well. :)

I like the images, but they take a TON of room.

flojocabron wrote:Congrats on the pocket station. I would like one too one day. I'm pretty sure the US version of Raycrisis also has support for the pocketstation. Here in the US its called RAY CRISIS SERIES TERMINATION.

I own a former rental copy for it. It has no cover but the booklet still has some info. They have a page about the pocketstation. Working designs talks about it and other stuff. So it may be possible that WD left the stuff on the disc in case the ps pocketstation ever came out in the US.

Worth a shot to try this out.
 That is interesting, Thankyou! Can you post a scan of the Pocket Station page from your Ray Crisis manual? I'm real curious exactly what gets transfered to the Pocket Station. My impression is the resolution is similar to a VMU so maybe a mini game of sorts? Not a great fan of SHMUPs, but any Pocket Station game is good to try. I'll have to keep an eye out on U.S. version of PS1 Ray Crisis!

@ Breetai - I usually leave Javascript disabled, others might too. Frustrating for me to go to a page, enable Java, then have to refresh to open multiple Show buttons just to view a pic. Part of the fun of this Thread is seeing the pictures up front. Some might miss a hidden picture by not clicking a Spoiler such as that beautiful Tokyo Show helicopter. I'll try to keep a post manageable, the whole point so its an enjoyment to read. I removed the large pic at the top and will use the Spoiler if a large scrolling item such as the Pocket Station list.

@ elmagicochrisg - Thanks! I thought the Club Nintendo Statue was bigger, weird that the box it came in was so huge. Ah well, still like it. :D

It was another one of those days at work where someone brought in a huge plastic bin of old PC/Mac/Playstation games. The first thing you should always do is go for the Jewel cases. Sure enough, I don't have to hunt for the US version of Einhander anymore. The bin bringer didn't charge anything, either. She just asked that I help set up a few Craig's listings so she can sell some of the other games that are worth something.

Image

There was some other pretty cool shit in there, too.

1. Take a close look at the Nunchuck, Gamecube or N64 controller stick. They all have forty five degree stops to assist in hitting moves at angles. I hate those stops, especially when you need smooth spin moves as in Nights. Even Mario Galaxy for me is a better control with the Karma Nunchuck. This is the reason why I went the Dual Shock route for the Nights game in the Wii.

2. A lot of 3rd party Nunchucks are wireless, even some of the Nyco models.

@ Hobie - Great idea! I may go that route if convenient for my G3 10.4 OSX. Right now its two clicks to turn Java Off and On, be nice to have an auto mode.
