Seeing it in a theater with speakers blaring changes a lot of the presentation of the movie.

I don't think it's swifter than an eephus pitch come dialogue, but on the big screen the vision and story of the film is amazing and worth applauding. Kind of blows your mind.
I saw it on the big screen, and I still say it isn't one of the best films of the decade and Reservoir Dogs is better. It's the cheoreography that gets me: Uma Thurman just doesn't look like she really knows what she is doing. Yes, I realize Tarantino likes his throwbacks to 1970s exploitation style, with all their bad acting and over-the-top action, but Kill Bill doesn't capture the feel for me.

I agree that it's great to see this kind of sci-fi on the big screen. I enjoyed myself I was just a bit disappointed.

I'm not sure I buy the whole, "not seeing them as humans" thing though. Some of them went that far yes, but the president of Elysium for instance seemed pretty pissed off that they were blowing up civilians at the beginning. He seemed wary of a scandal coming out of it and that implies somebody must care.

I might be overly critical here but it bothered me.
ELYSIUM SPOILERS
Yes, but it entirely juxtaposed his position later in the movie. I don't think he legitimately cared about the people ... I think he cared about his presidency and position of power. Him doing something technically against an existing charter, even if everyone agrees, is grounds to get him out of office and for other people to take control of Elysium. Like most boards in power, they don't really care about anything besides keeping their seats. Half the movie was already about trying to take that power away.

And there's a lot of hints that the humans on Earth are viewed as beasts or something lesser like that as a whole. If you look at how Max gets sick in the first place, his safety and health was very little concern. The entire setup they had for the robot manufacturing looked like they were using radiation to sanitize the machines instead of using proper clean rooms, likely because that would be a cheaper solution if you didn't care about the worker themselves. They even make him sign papers to get medication that I doubt are just acknowledgement that he received medical care.

And then there's the fact that they healed no one. Ever. No company, no government, etc bothered to heal a single person, there weren't even humanitarian groups. What they left on earth, was a robot enforcement army that is controlled by Elysium central command. Even their terminology for the people on Earth was not "non-citizen" it was "Illegal". This all points to a collective idea that these people aren't people at all.

Man, leave some sort of clue what that's about. I have no idea if I can look at that or not.

Kill Bill is okay. I like to think of both movies as one thing... but I definitely think the second movie is significantly better. Overall though, I can think of several revenge stories that I would put above it. I don't see myself ever revisiting it. I would rather watch one of the movies it is emulating.

My favorite Tarantino movie is Pulp Fiction. I haven't seen any of his "new" stuff (anything past Death Proof, not even sure how much else he's done by now).

I have no gripe with people liking Pulp Fiction, but there is one glaring issue with the film and that it is only really 2/3rds him. The Bruce Willis story was written by another person and I really felt that this particular storyline was very weak and did not fit the rest the themes and tone of the rest of the film. I still love the film, do not get me wrong, but it feels somewhat disjointed by that other screenwriter's contribution.

I definitely recommend watching Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, if not only for the fact that they are fun to watch. They are really entertaining and charming in their Tarentino sort of way.

I can't stand death proof. I went in thinking 'oh it's Tarantino, how can he do anything under superb'. Came out thinking 'well, there's a first for everything'.

I liked Kill Bill when it came out, I felt more meh about it after re-watching it. I don't usually have a bad experience with QT movies but I don't usually have a mind-blowing one either. Which I guess is mission accomplished as far as the aim of the movies go.

My problem with Death Proof is that Tarantino spent so much time on setup, I forgot Kurt Russell was in the film. I considered it the weakest part of Grindhouse, after the constant action of Rodriguez's Planet Terror followed by all of those rapid-fire trailers. I know he's known for his dialogue and his "everyone sits around a table and talks pop culture" shots, but I think he missed the mark by including such a scene in the film and embracing his personal style as opposed to the grindhouse film style he was supposed to be emulating.
