Metroid Prime 3 was the first game I saw that made me say, "looks like I'm buying a Wii". Fun fact: Iwata himself actually co-directed it.

But man, Metroid Prime 2. I just can't get into that game. I've got a save that's well into the play of it. I made it up to the spider ball boss, which is pretty far into the game. I should just finish it. But for some reason MP2 just feels "off" to me, hard to put my finger on exactly what it is. The game just feels like... busy work.

And of course the first MP is still excellent to this day.

Hmm, I quite liked MP2 for the increased difficulty compared to the first... definitely ramped up the puzzles and complex level design. Torvus and Sanctuary Fortress were amazing to me. MP3 on the other hand was a little shorter and super easy (I recall most energy tanks being thrown in your face), but was still awesome. All around I still think it's one of the strongest trilogies out there in gaming. No denying the first takes the cake though and has the best music.

3. Thunderbirds - NES (March 9)
4. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 - Gamecube (March 22)

9. Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX - GBA (May 17)
10. Symphony - PC (May 24)
11. *NEW* Serious Sam: The First Encounter - PC (May 30)

I beat this game many years ago, but on Tourist difficulty and just going straight through without much exploration. However, this time it was beaten on Normal difficulty, and I found all 84 secrets, including the 2 secret levels. I forgot how brutal the very last stage was.

Alright, I got a few games to post about since I haven't been updating my list lately. Before I go on, I have to post a warning I forgot about:

In Batman Arkham Asylum there's a section of the game where the screen absolutely fucks up and creates static. This is actually part of the game, not you GPU burning up.

Okay, on to the games I beat:

1) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles - Genesis (rebeat)
2) Devil May Cry 2 – Xbox 360 via DMC HD Collection
3) Spyborgs
4) Truxton - Genesis (on Easy :()
5) Sol-Feace - X68000
6) Super Mario Sunshine – Gamecube (finished off)
7) Strider 2 – PlayStation (x2)
VIII) Bionic Commando – NES
9) Goldeneye 007 – N64
10) Bionic Commando 2009 - PC
11) Strider - NES
12) Strider 2014 - PC
13) Batman: Arkham Asylum - PC
14) Halo: Spartan Assault - PC

15) Mega Man: Powered Up - PSP
Image
My thoughts:
*sigh*...Where to begin?
I guess I'll start with visuals. They do look nice, but I don't really like the style. I'm not bothered by it like Miranda Paugh is, though. The animation is fluid when the frame rate allows it to be. The frame rate is really the sore thumb of the presentation. Just about every time there's more than a couple of enemies the game chugs like a fratboy. You'll enter a new area with some enemies, one of them will fire at you, you jump to dodge and/or fire back, then CHUGGUGGHUUUG CHUGGA! It wouldn't be so bad if it only happened a couple of times, but it happens in almost every stage. This game could've benefited from another round of optimization.

The audio quality is rather high with the music and sound effects sounding nice on the PSP Go's speakers. I didn't find any of the sound effects or music tracks offensive, but at the same time I didn't find myself thinking, "Wow, that's a great remix of ____-Man's stage." That leaves the voices. Holy shit, I fucking hate the voice acting. It's not like Mega Man 8 where the voice acting was inept, it's just the the voices themselves are annoying and unfitting. Dr. Wily has an irritating shrill which doesn't sound menacing at all, Mega Man sounds nondescript and generic, Roll is saccharine, and Dr. Light sounds bored. The Robot Masters are a mixed bag, but even the okay sounding Robot Masters' voices get tiresome during a battle.

Since I'm talking about the voices, I'll talk about the dialog they speak. It's awful, just awful. What does Bomb Man say when Mega Man encounters him? "BOMBS!" Brilliant!
When it's not basic and bland, it's jerky and choppy. The dialog sounds more like a summary of what the characters say, not what they actually said. To be fair, I did like the split personality Ice Man exhibits before his boss fight.

Now we get to the important bit: the gameplay. I'll be honest, I'd probably hate this game no matter what because it changes the classic game. I might be an old man winging here, but I don't think extra bosses should be thrown in to pad out game length and change the boss order. Elec Man's weakness is the Rolling Cutter, goddammit!

============ I've had this post saved for a while and I don't feel like writing anymore about it, so I'm just going to post a quick closure. If you want to talk anymore about this game, I'll elaborate on my thoughts. ======================

I have three main gripes with this game:
1) The level design
2) Frame rate issues
3) CRAMPS!

I have the same issue Mega Man Powered Up's level design that I did with Mega Man 10's in that it feels like if one part of a level was tweaked a smidge more, it'd be more manageable. There'd be platforms that are just a hair to far apart, forcing you to position yourself at the very edge of the platform and ceilings that're too low. I'll talk about that more in a bit.

The frame rate just frustrates me. I really see no reason for it as this is a console game and it's not the most impressive game, so this leads me to think that this game just wasn't optimized enough. I'd prefer if the game started flickering like the original game.

The levels are too cramped, like the game wasn't meant to be played on a wide screen. There's sections of levels where Mega Man can barely jump.

16) Portal - PC (rebeat)
Image
My thoughts:
I decided to replay this game since I recently bought Portal 2 during a Steam sale. I still like it quite a bit. I don't know if I'm older and therefore smarterer or if it's memory, but I was able to complete the game much faster than last time. I completed the campaign (during which I acquired the Terminal Velocity achievement) in about 3 and a half hours. There's not much else I can say about the campaign that hasn't been said a thousand times already.

I will say that the advanced maps are shit. It feels like someone at Valve just decided to take out pieces of carefully assembled puzzles and claim they're more challenging.

17) Mega Man - NES (rebeat)
Image
My thoughts:
I mainly replayed this to compare it with Powered Up.

I've seen the credits and have just a few characters left to unlock, so this goes on the list even though my time with it has just begun. Lots of fun, and certainly a system seller for me.

Was hoping to be near 50 on this list by the end of June. Work to do!

22. Quest For Glory (PC)
23. Guacamelee (PC)
24. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2)
25. Sid Meier’s Civilization V (PC)

It has been a while, so we have a few games to catch up on!

Guacamelee

What a blast to play, amazing graphics and animation, awesome fighting mechanics and a fiesta of Easter Eggs! I may play through this again just for fun, that was how entertaining it was. The level design was the perfect degree of challenging without being frustratingly hard. It was a real treasure to play. I might grab the wife to play co-op. We will see!

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

This was my first time playing the Sly Cooper series (I know I know!) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got all the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus and can say that I understand why people love the series. Sure, this one shows the faults of the era, with a wonky camera, but it was great.

I had a few small gripes, as I felt that the jumping was too short and took some getting used to and also the little mini-games like the racing game were INFURIATING! All in all it was a blast and I am going to try and grab the rest in the series

Sid Meier’s Civilization V

Can one truly BEAT Civ V? No. I am putting it on the list as I have now beaten the game with every victory type, with the final one being on the normal difficulty level on a huge Earth map. What was very very strange about that game in particular was that, besides a single civilization, everyone was very peaceful. No one was at war with anyone else and everyone got along splendidly.....except for the moment when I jettisoned into space. Ghandi was starting shit and the world was pissed.

Seriously though, there is something strangely addicted to Civ V. Every moment you tell yourself, "Just one more turn," until 100 turns go by and hours have been wasted!

11. Serious Sam: The First Encounter - PC (May 30)
12. *NEW* The Lost Vikings - GBA (May 31)

After many years, I finally got the chance to play The Lost Vikings. Being a puzzle and a platformer in one, it demanded precision. Lots & lots of precision. Frustrating levels of precision. But, the number of levels, different time periods, each one of the three viking's abilities, and the humorous dialogue got me through it. I would recommend it, but maybe on the SNES, if only because the extra buttons save you from having to do combinations of button presses for certain tasks like on the GBA port.

1-Metroid Confrontation
2-Red Dead Redemption
3-Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare
4- Bayonetta (PS3)
5- Doom 1 (Ps3) (BFG Edition)
6- The Last of Us (Ps3)
7- Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3)
8- Resident Evil: Revelations (Ps3)
9- King of Dragons (PSP)
10-Mercs (PSP)
11-Silent Hill: Downpour (PS3)

14- Crysis 3 (PS3)
15- Silent Hill Homecoming (Ps3)
16- Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (3DS)

17- Pokemon Y (3DS)

Well this was a fine good pokemon game, i haven't enjoy it a pokemon game like this since rubi/saphire. The new designs are actually likeable (most of the time) and the combination of types really keep things interesting. That fairy type is a dragon destroyer.

Dead Space 2

More of the first game. They did change the controls a bit which pissed me off. Caused me to use a few health packs on accident. I did play them (part one) back to back so that is why I got screwed up with the controls. Otherwise the game was fun even though it did not really seem as much of a survival horror to me. The first one seemed darker and less shooter. I thought that part 2 was giving into becoming a shooter with horror elements.

If you liked one, then you will like part 2 just not as much LOL. I got about half way through 3 at this point and stopped. The game had way too many areas where you were in zero gravity and it was more annoying than fun. With my limited play time I was not gonna waste it on that game any longer.

The first one was already more of a action game with some survival horror elements. You don't throw me a bunch of enemies or allow me to buy ammo in a survival horror game. I hear that 2 is more action than horror and im yet to try it for myself but if that's true it will be for the better, the original has a great atmosphere but it is constantly broken by hordes of enemies.

1. King of Fighters R-2 (NGPC)
2. Dead or Alive 2 (Limited Edition) (DC)
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time (PS2)
4. Metal Gear (PS2)
5. Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (DC)
6. Sonic The Hedgehog Pocket Adventure (NGPC)
7. Bust-A-Move Pocket (NGPC)
8. Super Puzzle Figher IIX (DC)
9. Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge (DC)
10. Puyo Puyo Fever (DC)
11. Phantasy Star Online (DC)
12. Among The Sleep (PC)

For my birthday last year, my sister funded Among The Sleep in my name on Kickstarter. Funny thing, last year, I didn't own a PC able to play it haha.

I loaded it up tonight and got sucked in, and beat it in one 4-hour sitting.

It's sort of like Amnesia. No fighting. Just hiding and navigating. There were several "oh shit' moments that really made me jump. The story gets really F'd up and disturbing by the end #nospoilers.

I'd recommend it, though it is short for the price.

BTW, was bummed that the credits have my sister's name instead of mine due to some mis-communication. :\
