This is not a dig at you specifically, just a thought process spawned from what I'm reading. When do gamers stop becoming apologists for sub-standard games? If it's a crummy game, why aren't we allowed to say so, to demand better? Graphics and atmosphere are all well and good, but if there's no gameplay to back it up, what a waste. It's a game, to be played. If you botch the "to play" part, why are we, the target audience, supposed to look the other way, praise the other merits, and be grateful that someone is peeing on our leg and telling us it's raining? Why is there constant over-promising and under-delivering?

We know that gamers, especially modern ones, are a fickle and mostly ungrateful audience. We know that the internet has given everyone an amplification of their voice, and criticism sells more advertising than praise. It's not even the "in" thing to do anymore to hate on things, it's just what's done. Hate on things, tear them down. We know that, and we're educated at every turn to not do that. Praise, be positive, words are weapons. Is that what's causing this attitude? This sort of no harm, no foul, your game looks pretty, it's all good I'm kind of enjoying it anyway because I dumped $80 on it that I'm never going to see back once it's been opened? Ha-Ha, joke's on me?

Urgh, it's driving me crazy in relation to XB1/PS4 stuff.

It has nothing to do with being modern. This stuff has been on every console. Games that look good but arent the best games.

I wouldn't say I am an apologist at all. Just that not everyone thought it was trash, but not a lot of praise either. So, I could see how some gamers may like it.

In the end these are reviews and opinions. I love some games that have had similar reviews and hated some games that are praised.

It seems they went for a cinematic approach and tried to make a game mixed with a movie. As often when these mashups happen, you get a weak version of both. From what I have read the game isnt trash, or broken, just not very good or great. I dont plan on buying it any time soon though, I have too many other games Id rather play first on the backlog.

My poor PS4 has been collecting dust for the last month :P. Can't wait to see some price drops  only games I am interested in buying at release this year are Uncharted 4 and The Division.

Anyone else playing Blacklight: Retribution?

Free to play and no PS+ required to play online (well actually, it's online only). Free to play doesn't necessarily mean pay to win either. You can throw money at the game to start building permanent load outs or gain access to items sooner, but the starting weapon is one of the best. You can't just buy the biggest gun and end up on top in every match. Lots of stat management and everything has trade offs.

I'm not normally a console FPS fan, but this one's got me hooked. Has a really cool cyberpunk aesthetic going on. Everyone has a wall hack ability that keeps matches quick and discourages camping. And hey, it's free.

So I think I am just gonna suck it up and keep The Order. Even if the game turns out to be mediocre, the "premium" edition is pretty nicely done as far as CEs go and I think it will look good next to some of the other CE statues I've picked up over the years. So, I will have thoughts on the game later this weekend.

I really enjoyed Blacklight when it first came out on PC quite a few years ago. Doesn't quite have the same following it used to but I loved the customizable guns. Though when I quit incendiary ammo was definitely pay to win.

So I am 1/3 of the way in and The Order is fine. A 9/10 or 10/10 game? No, not yet. A 7/10 or an 8/10 game. Certainly.

Yeah, I had a feeling that was going to be accurate. I am kind of wondering why some of the media outlets were harsh on it. I hear it is a fairly polished game if not very ambitious.

What are your thoughts on the length and cut scenes so far? I heard there are a ton of cut scenes.

So far they seem well implemented and the pacing is fine. None have felt too long.
