Nintendo 3DS
Re: Nintendo 3DS
Why should a handheld game be intrinsically less valuable than a console game? I totally buy the argument that different games should cost different amounts based on things such as development budgets and expected amount of sales, but why does the notion of a handheld game costing as much as a console game seem so ridiculous? If it costs the same to make as a console game then I see no reason why it shouldn't cost the consumer as much.

Have any portable titles ever cost as much to produce as a console title?
If you know of any I'd like to see examples.
Re: Nintendo 3DS
I'll take a guess that the actual reason for the increased pricetag might be the cartridge size. I seem to remember Capcom wanting to charge the extra ten bucks for Revelations when it launched. That game is close to or over 4GB IIRC.
As long as ATLUS doesn't make this a trend as the "niche RPG" tax then I don't see much of an issue. It's ten dollars and I don't see the big deal. That's an extra half hour to an hour of overtime at work. I mean come on....
I'm sure they'll answer the question themselves in an interview or something soon when the question comes up.
EDIT: Oh, and I'd much rather pay $50 for this then even $20 for a most of the console games the industry loves to churn out these days.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I'm on pace to put about 40 hours into Devil Survivor Overclocked. For the same price I put double the amount of hours in to Persona 4 Golden. Doesn't make me feel like I got ripped off as this is a very enjoyable game.
The price difference probably is for using a larger cart. But who knows for sure? They apparently make 3DS carts up to 8GB. For the resolution that'd be A LOT of cutscenes! I am surprised actually. Because I think the Vita only supports up to 4GB carts.

If this were a Super Nintendo game I'd believe it; but it's 2013... memory is cheap.
Re: Nintendo 3DS
Whatever man. Just keep complaining. I'll enjoy the game regardless of price. And when it gets a price drop I assume you will enjoy it too.
If it gets a price drop. Doesn't always happen with Atlus games.
We also do not know what Nintendo charges for larger carts. We know that Apple charges the consumer an extra $100 for each size up on their mobile devices. So who knows?

It'll become an expensive collectors item and then there will be a budget-priced reprint that crashes the aftermarket.

Haha. That is probably true, but I want the soundtrack that this will likely come with. An art book would be nice. We'll see.

I imagine that amazon or other online retailers may eventually have a pre-order discount. It seems like a lot of pre-orders get discounted nowadays. I got $10 back on kid icarus when they price matched with best buy. I'd say chances are good for at least five dollars off this game.
You're right. Nintendo could charge a premium on larger memory carts.

Certainly not opposed to paying less.

Unsure whether I want to go in on Project X Zone and am also waiting for pre-orders to go up for Devil Survivor 2 Break Code.
