I love the HotD: Overkill dialog. Brilliant. Can't wait for the PS3 version!

I'm gonna keep working on the Back to the Future Episodes. I'm also goign to finish up the Assassins Creed 2 - Sequence 13 DLC. On the retro side, I got a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance the other day, so I want to play that. I will probably also install the original Grand Theft Auto soon.

*New*Back To The Future: The Game - Episode 1: It's About Time (PSN)
PSN had the entire season on sale for 10 bucks a while back so I picked it up. Being a Back to the Future fan I definately have enjoyed my time with this game, and since Im not much of an Adventure gamer, I appreciate that the puzzles generally are not too hard. Though experienced players would find them way too easy.
Its obvious though that this game was just made as a quick cash in though. Not a lot of care went into the graphics, so there are a lot of ugly models and texture work is sub-par. As well, animation is really jerky. Controls are stiff and at times confusing, particularly when the camera angle changes. It feels like a rushed job.
As for the story, its been passable so far. Back to the Future never had a great story to begin with, its more about the crazy antics that occur, so seeing Marty and Doc back together does put a smile on my face. The third movie is often considered the worst, and while I don't dislike the third as much as some people, the games story is on about the same level as the third. I feel this could have been made better if it was not divided into episodes, because as it stands, the story seems either too rushed in most places, or it crawls. Its quite odd.
If your a fan, I'd say its worth a play through, though you might want to play it on a friends machine, not sure yet if it was worth the 10 bucks I paid.
*New*Costume Quest - Grubbins on Ice DLC (PSN)
See this post for thoughts on the base game:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=27393&p=378492&hilit=costume+quest#p378492
As for thoughts on the expansion, its basically more of the same. The new costumes are nice and the new area is nice and large, but really thats all there is too it. Plot here is even lighter then the main game, basically you get taken into the moster realm where some moster is trying to bring back Big Bones and him and his army are oppressing the rest of the monsters, so you go out and help with the monster revolution to stop this from happening. Its really short though, I was sad it ended so soon. I beat it in a single sitting, but expansions these days often end up like that. Its a depressing trend.
*New*PixelJunk Shooter 2 (PSN)
I loved the first PixelJunk Shooter, but the sequel left me dissappointed. This game decided to add more, be more and do more then the first, but its a prime example of why more is not always better.
In the first game there was a set of mechanics involving dirt, lava, ice and water. Over the course of the game these mechanics were really explored in depth making for some really creative and fun levels. In Shooter 2 however, there are so many new mechanics that they just keep throwing them at you, level after level, and none of them get really creative, because as soon as you've seen them they are gone again. Really the only mechanic that was truely explored was the Light and Dark system of the final world. And even then, they had a few too many elements in that.
Shooter 2 also upgraded the difficulty. Right off the bat I was sad about this because one of the things I liked about the first was that it was never super challenging and I could just play it to relax and zone out. But in Shooter 2 the levels are larger and longer (though you can do a quick save mid-level so you can quit and continue your progress, and game over's just reset your score in this game, instead of the whole level) and with all the new mechanics I often found myself dying to things I did not see coming. The game also makes the mistake of assuming that you have recently played the first, as none of the old mechanics are properly re-introduced. Overall, the games difficulty came off as more frustrating then fun. This may also have had to do with my OCD of needing to get all the treasure and rescue all survivors before I moved on to the next level.
The surprising highlight of the game for me was the competitive multiplayer mode. Its a 1 vs 1 mode were you take turns on offense and defense. Offense has to go out and grab as many survivors as possible and bring them to the scoring circle. Defense has a limited range of vision and has to track down and and kill the offense. If offense is successfully killed they drop a token which will end the round if picked up. If defense is killed they simply respawn in a few seconds. As you play, win or lose, you earn money which can be used on various upgrade items. Once you buy the item you can choose to put it in one of your 3 upgrade slots just before the match. Whats interesting about them though is that your opponent knows what items you have equipt before the battle, so play styles change based on that. Now its all good fun when you are match up with someone from the same league with similar items and skill level, but on occasion you are match up with someone of a higher league, with much better items. At those times the multiplayer can be frustrating as hell, just as with other games. To combat this the game did two things, first they made it so that you can refuse any match up before it starts, so you can completely avoid them if you want. Second, playing against a person from a higher league grants a small cash bonus, and an even larger one if you are able to beat them. Overall the multi is great, it becomes a game of tactical cat & mouse, and all works suprisingly well.
*New*Back To The Future: The Game - Episode 2: Get Tannen! (PSN)
Everything still applies from the first one, except I felt this episode was slightly better paced. I don't want to discuss the continued plot as its really all the game has going for it.

I really liked F.E.A.R. 3, the combat was intense, some scenes were fairly creepy and the challenges were incredibly fun. The MP mode is awesome but it's kind of a ghost town so if someone here decides to buy it then I'd really appreciate playing with you guys. Now for the bad stuff, the game is insanely demanding and I'm not sure if it is due to poor optimization or that it's actually demanding but I was getting 55-50 FPS average on a GTX 460 1GB @800/1600/1900, AMD Phenom II X4 965 @3.4GHZ, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 1TB Hitachi HDD on Max settings, 1920X1080 and no AA (The game's anti-aliasing is incredibly demanding as well, 4XAA lowered my framerate by 30-35 frames!).

Captain Commando is definitely a blast. For some reason I've always really enjoyed Quiz & Dragons.

Capcom orientated one in the bonus section gets especially addictive. Learned a ton of shit I'm never going to use.

totally. When I first got a PSP in 2008, pretty much all I owned was retro compilations for it. Actually, come to think of it -- that IS all I owned for it back then. Haha. Just tons of retro re-releases. So yeah, it was always fun kind of exploring a list of games like that and actually playing through interesting games I totally wouldn't have otherwise. Quiz & Dragons is a great example of this kind of thing.

What, you didn't like King of Dragons? That game made for some awesome hack and slash!
