Re: What shmup are you playing now?
I've been playing Fast Striker on DC. Made it to the stg6 boss this morning. Really fun shmup, but when you rank up for doing well, shit goes crazy. Devil rank is something else, and when things start throwing suicide bullets in the later stages it gets really hectic.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Was playing Guwange last night. Managed to get to Stage 5 for the first time. I'm thinking that the clear might not be too far off if I decided to put the time and effort into it... I think my score was around 2 million (if I'm reading the kanji on the high score table correctly) with a best chain of 1992. Not exactly expert level, but I'm happy with that for now...

Opened up Under Defeat HD - they have an Arcade Mode and New Order Mode. I played the Arcade first and couldn't believe this was their "HD" edition. Then I realized what New Order meant - the same thing as Arcade, just in HD. It has different enemy patterns too.
I did the best as the "P" chopper. That red guy is a beast. Switching to the dual analog controls (not the default) is a must also.

wasn't New Order in yoko rather than tate? It's been a while since I played this game, but I thought that was the major difference between the two modes.retrosportsgamer wrote:Opened up Under Defeat HD - they have an Arcade Mode and New Order Mode. so any reason to upgrade over the DC port?retrosportsgamer wrote:Opened up Under Defeat HD - they have an Arcade Mode and New Order Mode. I kind of want to pick it up just for the soundtrack. I've only played the HD version (imported). Never played the DC version. I remember some folks complaining about the HD version's tate mode not being quite right aspect-ratio wise and also complaining that off-screen bullets occurred in spots that wasn't present in the original. But I can't say from experience.dsheinem wrote: so any reason to upgrade over the DC port?

Yeah, New Order mode is "vertizontal", like Mars Matrix.
As for it being worth the move from the DC port, I guess it depends on how much you like the idea of the arrange mode, as the DC's arcade mode is definitely superior. Like Noise stated, there are tate issues, and issues with enemies that have scrolled off-screen still shooting at you.

Is the PS3's arcade mode inferior to the DC port or are you comparing the DC arcade to the New Order arrange stuff?dunpeal2064 wrote:Yeah, New Order mode is "vertizontal", like Mars Matrix.

Tate = vertical/arcade, got that. What is yoko?

Left - yoko, Right - tate.
Though really like dunpeal said, this is a diff mode than just playing a vertical oriented game horizontally. No black bars in the pic above. New Order Mode basically remakes the game so that there's more playing field to fill a horizontal widescreen TV or monitor.
